so he puts pfr6 (thats all it said on the plug)

well driving to park my car it began to misfire badly yup burnt all 4 plugs , car started to misfire, then it started to smoke quite badly

now i sit in south africa and dont know which plugs to get i am really confused to make things worse the plugs are calles bpr in number over here,

SO PLEASES HELP ME lol

Hello again,

I am currently looking into purchasing a different eprom so I can use UK standard fuel. I am still experencing occasional detonation even with the octane booster and thats with base timing at 13 degrees! My Z is not a happy chappy at the moment. I have ordered NGK plugs (PFR6B-11C) to replace the bosch units that are in there at the moment. My plugs have colours on them that I have never seen before, almost as though they are fouling, running rich, lean and too hot all in one! They are blackish but the end is more white.

As for what type of plugs to use, I have read most of the dicussions on this now and had lenghy discussions with NGK UK.

PFR5B-11 N/A hot plug

PFR6B-11 N/A cooler plug for higher BHP

(This has just changed to PFR5G-11)

PFR5B-11B TT hot plug

PFR6B-11B TT cooler plug for higher BHP

PFR7B-11B TT Even cooler for seriously high BHP

The 11B's are unavailable in the UK and according to NGK are unique to the US. The UK code is PFR5B-11C, PFR6B-11C, PFR7B-11C respectivly. The difference between the B and C is a slight difference in shroud lengh to cater for country regulations.

If you are using PFR6B-11's then this is your problem. They are for the N/A and in a TT would be like running a petrol Lada on diesel. The shroud length is too short and would promote detonation big time on a TT. You need a B or C on the end!

NGK also do a special racing plug with a completly different code but these plugs like the very cool PFR7B-11C's foul quickly and are more suited to race use rather than road.

Hope this helps,

Andy

hi anders thanks for the help. tell me

those plugs i was runnign burnt 4 of them , you recon that isd the reason? plug completley wrong,

did you see my post about getting that fuel, octaen booster?

it is really cheap here, im getting a price now.

ps do you know why if you burn a plug and drive the car a bit it smokes ?

chat to you later

Hi,

If the guy only changed 4 of the plugs and 4 have burned out then that seems very suspicious to me.

If they were PFR6B or PFR6B-11 with no B or C on the end then they are definitely the wrong plug. The spark is too close to the head, ouch! I would'nt have thought that the code number would be different in your neck of the woods.

I am no qualified mechanic but this is the explaination I got when I had the same problems when I dropped a cylinder, common sense really. If the fuel is not being burnt efficiently then excess fuel will get thrown out the engine. Correctly burnt fuel creates a shit load of energy and invisible gases. Incorrectly burnt fuel creates less energy, few invisible gases and a shit load of very hot unburnt fuel which is all chucked out the back of the exaust. Hense black smoke if the engine is running too rich.

Change ALL the plugs. Use PFR6B-11B if you can get them. If not, use PFR6B-11C. I am not too sure on the effects of octane booster on spark plugs. All I have heard is that some additives in octane boosters leave a residue on the plugs.

About 2 hours labour to gut the cats (main cats, not precats). When its all up and running get them checked because I reckon you may have melted them with this recent episode. I did big time! Did you get a warning ligh come up (lambda sensor)? If you did then definitely check the cats.

I would be more confident replacing the EPROM than using octane booster for the rest of the cars life.

hi again did you get that tel contact on your other post with the guy in the uk who deals with mines ecu,s?

i put it up there giver him a ring he amy have afew answers, the reason i dont want to change my ecu is im taking the car to south africa in febuary next year, and 102 octane is available as pump gas at the petrol sastions over there.

so it will suit the ecu fine i gues the only option i have is to run my car on standard boost (i have a blitze duel solenoid boost controller) so ill run it bog standard,

on standard boost my car made 320bhp on the rear wheels so it is going alright.

just hope i hasvent damaged my engine chast t6o you later warren out.

ps plugs over here in south africa are 1.pound 50pence each
