Hi everyone.. I drive a "92ZX tt manual in Singapore.. Currently I'm facing some problems with my Zed doing sharp cornerings at high speed... and during launching.. I find that my tail is swaying.. I had been told by friends that removing the HICAS will solve the problem.. I had been looking at some HICAS eliminator on Ebay with Stillen specs.. but none could advise me on how to properly install the eliminator.

I do have my own garage.. but my mechanic had not installed this before as Zed is a rarity here in Singapore... and furthermore, there's only two twin turbo 300zx in this island which the other is an auto transmission..

Could anyone advise on the installation, or the purpose of the Hicas eliminator, or the reasons behind the problems I'm facing.. would very much be appreciated...

Some specs of my Zed... Stillen exhaust, bodykit, hose, K&N Intake, OS Giken Clutch set, short throw gearshift, GReddy turbo boost control, JimWolf or JUN chipped ECU, Michelin 275/35 ZR18 tyres on rear Yokohama 235/40 ZR18 tyres front, on BBS 18"wheels... Thank you for your time...

Why remove the HICAS???? Why not just fix the problem with it? Chances are its your rear shox need replacing OR the rod ends on the HICAS arms. All cheaper than the removal kit and MUCH less work ;)

Hi Monzee,

Before spending a lot of your cash on an expensive HICAS eliminator, check for the followin possible causes first:

Rear subframe and HICAS bushes need replacing

Rear suspension needs replacing

I have come across several ZXs in this country which experienced similar symptoms to what you are describing. In most cases it were the bushes that were worn out and replacing them with poly's cured the problem. On others one of the suspension needed changing (note: always best to change both sides at the same time). As for checking whether the HICAS bushes need replacing, jack the rear of the car up and while facing the rear wheel grab it with both hands at the 9 and 3 o'clock position and push/pull. There should only be minimal play if any more is detected then you may want to change the bushes.

Not sure if the above is any help to you really but if it means you having to spend less money to solve the problem then I'm all for it!

Take care,

Danny

Thanks Andy... currently I'm using Eibach absorber and springs.. which had been fitted on for about 30 months now... not sure whether had they been worn out... will check that out... thks...:)

Thanks Danny.. I'm gonna try do that now... I had suspected this.. but had been told about the hicas...

mine was doing the same as ur's ... i changed the 2 hicas arms on the rear ... and the outer ball joint .... she's rock steady now ....

dead simple to change ..... if u want to know let me know ...

it takes longer linning than changing :)

My car has no HICAS and the rack has been taken out too :D To save on MASS. ;)

Hi Royztt... the Zed was a dream that I can't resist... no matter how much itz gonna burn my pocket... :) u had been 2 Singapore?

Hi SRRAE n Scott.. I will checkout my absorbers and bushing.. and if I still can't do a faster cornering than in my brother's Civic SiR.. The HICAS gotta go... Thanks... :)

I just bought the hicas lock out . the kit that i got has the pipe that the rod arms go to and it has plugs that go to the lines. I think that you can remove the whole system with no problem. the only thing is the rear alignment when your done. make sure that you guy can do it! Hows the clubin on orange st. havent been there in a few years?

Hi jspec300tt... I had did what Danny suggested... realised that my left rear absorber is not working properly.. I'm also replacing the bushes.. I will test it this coming Saturday night in Malaysia...

I think eventually I'll remove the Hicas... I had figured that Stillen would not make the Hicas eliminator if Steve Millen had not faced the same problem...

Well, Club Orange on Mohamed Sultan Road had closed down... but newer clubs had been kicking into same street where Orange used to be... I prefer the older clubs like Liquid room, Velvet Underground, and ZOUK!!! (with guest DJs almost every week like Oakenfold, Van Dyk, Fatboy, Judge Jules, Danny Rampling, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha... just to name some of the familiar names that had been in the scene too long...:p )

Do write me if you are heading this part of Asia again (anyone from this forum too, always welcome).. J scene had always been hot here...(from cars to toys to music to fashion to movies.... etc.) even though Singapore follows English rules and laws... and all our exams are sent to England to be graded...and our first language is Queen's English... n we glue ourselves to the TV every weekend for Premier League :p

In the meantime, all you guys take care.. I'll be hyped up with project Civic SiR/EK4 (friend's car)... showdown in Malaysia this Sat nite...
