I think there where problems with the DVLA registering some Z32 as Z31. I think you may be one of them

If so, do I need to do anything? Or just make sure my insurance doesn't rely on the reg number alone.

I remember a thread about this Z31/32 issue, didn't think mine matched it tho.

We are a country run by fools

Cheers

Check the taxation class on the v5, should be plg. you dont wanna pay 2k road tax do ya.:(

When I first registered mine the log book arrived for a 3 litre turbo Micra ! :D :D :D

I believe that the description two axle rigid body coupe referes to the z31 model, as my first one said this and when i got insurance quotes using the reg no i got the same price as getting a quote on a z31 (Steve Burns might be able to help us out on this one, i think he knows a few people with z31's). The z 32 was about £100 higher. Easiest way is to get your insurance company to state z32 model on the policy somewhere. As trying to get dvla to change their descriptions is a bit difficult to say the least.

I bet yours is a 1989 model, as dvla believe that z32 werent made till 1990, which in the uk mabe true but the japs got em first, my old one was an 88 on an f plate.

My current z says 300zx 2+2 turbo coupe, which i think is correct, however it also says ive got a 29,998cc engine. 30 litre twin turbo zed, nice!!!

Oh and if you do decide to get it changed with dvla, write them a leetter explaining whatthe problem is and tell them that you want it changing, bunot recorded on their records as a model change etc, as it has simply been an incorrect description in the first place, otherwise you may get hpi check problems when/ if you sell it and lose value on the car as a result.

Best of luck mate.

The 'two axle rigid body coupe' designation on your V5 doc probably comes about because the form required to be filled in for initial registration has been filled in incorrectly. Cant remember the exact details but the 'two axle rgid body'(DVLA speak for most stantard production cars) description should be filled in in one part of the form the 300ZX TT Coupe description should be placed in the section of the form that the DVLA will use for the V5 doc.

Ahh thanks for the info guys. I'll probably just leave it as it is and make sure future insurance policies are ok. At the mo insurance is fine because they couldn't find the car from the reg number so I had to give it to them.

The V5 says "declared 1990" too which I suppose at least shows the dvla it must be a Z32. My bro in law works for Fords and can do HPi checks so I might try that too :) .

Its reassuring to know that my Zed does have 2 axles though, and that the body is rigid ;) .

Cheers

Sell it? Are you mad :D :D ;) ?!

Group buy on a 30Litre engine?

Pete :)

Rigid???? Thats a joke, ever driven it covered in ice!!!:D :D :D

I think what they mean by "Two axle rigid-body " is that its a car not a motorcycle or a three wheeler

I may be wrong !!!

Easiest way to tell is get a few online quotes for insuance, one for a z31,one for a z32, and one with your reg plate.

Whichever one the price matches with the one on the reg plate is whatever dvla have got your car registered as.
