My battery is completely shot - output of 2.5 mv and not accepting any charge. This could explain why the alternator was outputting 16V or it could be that the voltage regulator in the alternator has gone and killed my battery.

 

So any recommendations on what to get / not to get as far as the battery is concerned please.

 

Once I get it started I shall check the alternator output and if still 16V and if so any recommendations what to get / not to get please.

I posted on a thread about this just recently. Got a battery from my local Motoquip for about £32+VAT. 70AH and 575 CCA I think. 2 year guarantee. You can get EXACTLY the same battery with a 4 year guarantee for about another £12.

 

So unless you have a hoooge stereo, then a std battery should be OK.

I fitted a Halfords battery - HCB096 - to mine.. tight fit, and it's massively overspecced as far as CCA goes, but it works nicely..

 

Warren just fitted the same battery -so if he can make it fit, anyone can ;) :D

if the alternator is putting out 16v then your right, the regulator is knackered.

I have just bought a FIAMM battery 570 CCA and 58 AH. On test the meter said it was outputting 800A.

 

I only run a bog standard pioneer CD player/radio and so the low AH figure does not worry me.

 

It is about 10mm lower that the one that was in the car and so I shall stand it on a piece of chipboard. The cover that goes over the battery also needs a small mod, on of the spacers on the inside is fouling - a quick fix with a sharp knife should sort it out.
