Hi, after the long thread re sandwich wrapped headliights I drove mine last night and the dipped beam, whilest not very deep is OK, in fact it is on a par with my Xantia diesel runabout, which has good headlights.

Mine is a '93 series 2, maybe they improved them? Anyway thats it really, just thought I would say.

When I first got my Z, there was no light if any showing on the road. I had that for about a year.

When I changed the bulbs I noticed that on one side I could actually see the light on the road. The next evening I took out a 10mm spanner and adjusted them and it is a hell of a lot better now.

My car passed 2 MOTs with the lights not shining on the road.

Like you said it doesnt go particually far but it is better than what some people say.

I also think the highbeam is ver good. I have heard people call them too.

In my case when I say not very deep I mean when adjusted correctly, there is a space between the car and the biginning of the main light on the road which is a result I feel of the design of the light, ie it leaning back quite a lot. But I am sure that if I upgrade the bulbs slightly my head lights (on dip) will be more than good enough, as for main bean, yes no probs there either.

makes me wonder whats wrong with nearly everyone else's, and I know its not me just "thinking" they are ok.

You have to be real careful about bulb upgrades....a lot of people have found that fitting 100w cooks the wiring.

Check out the earlier threads re: lighting.

I wouldn't risk 100w but i would try 80w bulbs, has anyone got these in either dipped or main beam??????/

If yes where can i get 80w bulbs and will it be ok heat wise to fit them?????????/

I was running 80w's & they kept blowing  reckon it was too hot TBH

I've tried 100W with uprated wiring and whilst there was a massive improvement, they only lasted about a week and burnt out each time. Can't afford to pay out £15 in bulbs every week on top of petrol!

The best I have found is the 30% brighter jobbies that are still 55W from Halfords etc.

I agree with Chris here, go for the 30% brighter 55w ones. One bulb actually exploded in the headlight & I have to fish the remains out now lol.

Well done Mark, I'm glad you can see where you are going now.

TBH I agree 100% There is nothing wrong with dipped beam on my car - in fact far better than most cars I've driven. Maybe just a good clean of the lenses would sort it? Remember there's 10yrs+ of dirt build up in there.... Just a thought...

I was talking to Phil a C&S Wood last time I was there and he said the he cleans he lights when he does a chrome light conversion and after cleaning you can see the bulb behind the lens.

If I look at mine now, I cant see anything through the lens so god knows how light gets from behind it all.

I think if you give the lights a good cleaning, inside and out, they would be improved a lot.

I had 133W bulbs in mine and they where great. They lasted about 3 weeks but they blew while coming home from the Rally in Wales. I think they blew becuase I had to keep flicking from dip to highbeam all the time.

Has any one ever thought about installing behind the light to see if that makes any difference? Probably wont work though.

Stuart

I think mine are a bit grubby i may give them a clean tonight.....

I have the 55w for the main but not sure about the dipped,i'll check............
