Tudor...
Hi. I was wondering if a series 1 TT instrument cluster can be replaced with a series 2 TT Cluster, are the plugs/sockets the same? Thanks, Tudor.
0 JaiKai
I do not believe they are compatible plug wise, may work with a retro fit but likely not worth doing. 0 TheRealNips
Looking at the three sockets size and shape and number of contacts, although their placement is different, the earlier ones seem to be the same. They have 1x 12 contacts (6 each side), 1x 10 contacts (5 each side) and 1x 8 contacts (4 each side). The different one being the type three which has 2x 12 contacts and 1x 10 contacts. Ive bought and sold different clusters for all of my cars over the years and until this thread had no idea that there were different versions. Every one I plugged in worked, so I must have been really lucky! 1990 Black MT NA LWB = 2014 - 2020 (Sold) 1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2015 - 2017 (Stripped & Scrapped) 1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2017 - 2021 (Sold) 1991 Black MT TT LWB = 2018 - 2021 (Sold) 1989 Red AT TT LWB = 2021 - XXXX (Kept)
0 arthur
Hi there, I have a 91 Z TT with a mk1 cluster Three years ago I purchased a mk2 cluster (still in the garage!) because ? The sockets do not fit. They look the same as the mk2s are - whilst the mk1s are l but the plugs are different

0 ianl
Series 1 and 2 have the same insides, but different outsides, so you can swap individual components. Series 3 and 4 are completely different to 1 and 2 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

0 arthur
Hi Ian, so if I change all the dials from my uk set into my mk1 case & keep my odometer would I still need a kms to mph converter?

If you move the speedo dial from UK into jap the speedo reads in miles without a converter. If you keep the jap odometer it will read km without an adapter. I moved my speedo and odometer so no converter needed I did however get an annoying side effect, every time the speed drops to zero the chime goes boing once. A few others reported this, most did not. I wonder if my donor unit was from an auto Edited August 31, 2023 by ianl [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
