Brake pedal is harder to depress than usual and Z is not slowly down as quick as it should! Any ideas?

If the pedal hgas gone hard it must be something to do with the braking servo. it could simply be the hose that runs from the manifold to the servo itself ?

 

does the engine run a little lumpy ? if it does it is because it is sucking in air because of pipe not conected or split ?

 

dont know where it is on Z, just know from past experiences on other motors

Yep sounds like vac pipe to servo unit. Have a look on the rear drivers side of the upper intake - there is a 1" hose coming off it which goes to the brake master cylinder - or at least there should be ;) Check all along this line to the master cylinder and check for any cracks etc...

Could be partially seized calipers...very common, try and see how easy to push the caliper pistons back in, may need a new seal kit.

With the engine switched off press the brake pedal a couple of times until pedal goes firm & keep your foot on the brake pedal

then start the engine ......the brake pedal should drop down a bit if the servo and connecting pipework is operational but as Andy says it might be a cracked hose making it less effective.....Dave

Gota agree with Andy, if a brake caliper was seized it would result in vibration and noise from the offending side on braking, especially when low pressure was being applied to the pedal.

Mmm.. take your point Roy but do see a lot of zeds with a firm pedal but little braking effect and usually the caliper piston operation is " tight" maybe seized was an incorrect term, if all 4 pistons in each caliper require more than normal force to push them out but are equally tight, the effect could be as described by Fair zxtt.

 

Sometimes removing the pads and working the pistons back and forward (two man operation one on the brake pedal other lever in caliper) will make an improvement, however if you remove the pistons and fit a new set of seals you can be sure, I would guess from calipers we have dealt with that the seals somehow swell up and make the fit to tight between the piston and caliper bore?
