ok i keep getting different answers from tuning companies about whats the best route to power:(

ok my car is a 1991 300zx twin turbo j-spec manual with straight through exhausts(cats removed not gutted) and 2 hks blow of valves(i know they do nothing for performace but i thought i better mention them just in case it matters) and an apexi induction kit as far as i know thats all the performance stuff it has

it was rolling roaded at 280.7@ the wheels running 11 psi

im looking for more power but im not sure what the next step should be i have called a few places about a chip but apart from zed world have told me there is no point chipping the car as i can not run above 1 bar of boost anyway.

any ideas for whats next?

thanks in advance

Paul

How big's your wallet? everything from here gets expensive, intercoolers, bigger turbo's, pistons, injectors.......etc etc.

Upgrade ECU I would've thought next or boost controller, or both!

im meant to be getting a apexi avc-r and apexi fuel and air controller but i asked the se nissan about an ecu upgrade and they said i dont need one unless i was putting cams in it cause the standard ecu would outhandle the turbo's and grasshopper said that the stock ecu would outhandle the bottom end where as jeff at zed world reckons with a jwt chip i should be ok up to about 17 psi so needless to say im a bit confused:confused:

I'm no expert but would thought you could get your boost up a LITTLE bit more, how you do that is up to you!! Boost controller is the best way.

I thought you get an JWT ECU and they you can run 14-15psi happily.

I have been told that you shouldnt really up the boost with out an uprated ECU,

Paul,

Upgrading the ECU (JWT, MINES, VEILSIDE, etc) does NOT increase your boost. What it does is remap the air/fuel ratios, shift points, etc. which, when coupled to either boostjets or preferably a boostcontroller, will allow you to safely run higher boost levels.

Best way to go from here is like what James300 said: upgrade ECU, boost controller, upgraded turbo's & intercoolers, upgraded injectors (which will require another ECU upgrade). All of this can get very expensive and I always suggest that the stock car has to run perfectly before starting the upgrade path. That way you are far less likely to do serious damage to the engine's internals.

Hope this helps mate!

thanks dan that was my original plan i just got a little put off when i heard the internals wouldnt hold over 1 bar of boost as i said the car is going in next week to get a boost controller and super air and fuel controller fitted so i was looking to get an ecu upgrade in time for this as if i dont the boost controller will be turned off until i do get a chip and i think the engine is good at the moment it has 45k on the clock and has had a compression test and various other tests to make sure its in good condition before any tuning starts
