Is the auto box not very good on the TT or do people just go for manual because it's better?

With all the costs me and Joel mention, parts, gearbox and ecu’s, having a budget of £10k, probably isn’t far off the reality for these works. Would be great to see it happen as another innovation for the Z32, but who has the brave pill and man maths to justify the cost over a manual conversion.

Exactly mate....

I'd be up for the conversion if I'd get change our of (say) £3500 max..... Otherwise, it's not worth the outlay - I'll soldier on with my lazy 1990s autobox until it fails, and then either go manual or get the 'box  rebuilt.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think for the hassle, I'll stick with manual. I mean, I'd never use a Z32 as a commuter car, so it's irrelevant to me personally. My daily hacks are autos and that's nice just for wafting through busy traffic, but I wouldn't waste my time driving a Z in that type of environment.

I love these threads, they incite thoughts, opinions, banter and even go into the world of dreams; like the possibility of spending £10k on converting a 30 year old Zed from having archaic 4 speed slush-box to sporting a modern 7 or 8 speed DSG!

Hell, as the thread evolved, I even began to consider it myself, in the ideal world, where money grew on trees.... But we've done a full circle; the whole point of us owning a classic 1990's GT/sports car, is to enjoy that particular driving experience. To convert our Zeds into something modern, whether auto or manual,  just like the cars we already drive every day,  completely defeats the whole concept of owning a 1990s classic!

My Z4 does the daily hack - as does Julia's car, both of which have nice modern 8-speed paddle shift assisted gearboxes. But then I get back into the Zed, and totally fall back into loving the whole analogue experience - which is why I will not give it up.

Auto or manual, all Zeds are great - and whilst the auto suits my needs, I would not hesitate to go manual... Hence I also concur with Si's comment above ?

...Which loosely translates into me conceding that, despite loving my own auto, the manual versions will always be more desirable; for the very reasons we have all shared in this thread.

And without wishing to extol the virtues of the auto-Zed brigade any more, I will finish with the usual advice for anyone looking to buy a 300zx.... Just buy the best 300zx you can, whether it be auto or manual. Buy on over-all condition, not transmission or mileage - the available choices are ever-diminishing, as these cars get more rare. You can always get a manual conversion done later, if you want ?

Hell, I feel so dirty having posted that, I need to go scrub myself head to toe with a wire brush and some Dettol..... And therein lies another joke ?
