Dear knowledgeable ones, I need to replace my rear suspension and bought, what I thought was correct for the car, going by the registration number (Suspension part was KYB554104 KYB1). The garage told me that because the car was an import, the suspension  I bought would not fit: it appears that imported ZX’s have different fittings from the British bought cars. I find this strange but it appears to be true. Can anyone offer advice, especially if you have had the same problem with an import? Perhaps there is a specialist I can go to.

The KYB catalog lists the 554104 for the Z31 300ZX (page 205)

The OEM Z32 rear shock will look like this:

and the KYB versions:

UK spec Z32's have adustable rear shocks (two settings controlled by an acutator on top of the shock) which isn't actually used but is fitted by the factory. JDM

specs don't have these. Otherwise the shocks are the same fittment. The UK spec actuators are redundant when fitting aftermarket rear shocks.

Thanks to AndrewG and jimmer. You have provided some things for me to follow up. I checked the car again and noticed that it still has the original shockers on the car. The original number is: 56210 33P12. However, the problem you pose for me is this… AndrewG’s last hyperlink ref to KYB741028 and comment “…otherwise the shocks are the same fitment..” suggests that these shocks will work as a replacement. If so, I can order these. On the other hand, jimmer’s thread states a different part number (341151). Sorry to be a pain, but are you both saying that each will work as a replacement? I eagerly await any clarification to my confusion, and many thanks to you both for taking the time to respond.
