Hope someone can help.  When I start the engine from cold, oil pressure goes up to 4. When it is hot it goes down to 1 sometimes 2.

I think I have low oil pressure. Any advice appreciated.

Mine did that and is a very common complaint, no need to fear the worst.

I’d suggest a new oil sender unit and/or an aftermarket gauge.

The water temperature gauge is just as useless, that just sits in the middle no matter what ?.

As Andy says quite a common fault. Replace with a new sender. On RHD cars the sensor is located on the n/s of the engine block

(picture in link below) near the oil pan and looks like this:
