Hey guys

I'm looking for some help on a mates Z . The car will start from cold and run ok until it gets up to temp...... then it splutters and dies and refuses to start.

Is there a known problem that fits the description? I'm thinking along the lines of a temperature controlled switch / valve?

The car has recently had new PTU's, so I'm hoping these can be ruled out

Thanks in advance

I forgot to add that the ECU gave a 55 code .....

is it a version 2 PTU, or just another mk1 (with the aluminium fins on the front)?

If its another old model then its not unlikely that that one has also broke.

But check the collant temp sensor harness, I know theres no error code but its worth a try and i dont know what to suggest.

Hmm, sounds like fuel pump controller.

I had this exact problem, it turned out to be a power transistor in the FPCU situated in front of the NS wheel arch, inside the car. I have subsequently bought a second hand one and that had a blown transistor too!

Put a meter on the output, sorry can't remember the exact wires, if the voltage drops significantly, I mean down to 0.5-1v then you've found the problem.

Voltage should be: Battery voltage for 30sec after starting, dropping to 3 - 6v on idle and back up to battery voltage on WOT. (EF & EC - 153).

Hi,

Just to add something to this thread about my running prob. When i broke down last saturday the AA man ran a few tests,he found now pulse at the injectors nor the coil packs. It put a question on the PTU or may be the CAS.Would i get no pulse if the FPCU (fule pump controller unit) was breaking down ?

Under new name from now (shrek/zx KEN) :)

Well, with that little snippet of info, it's obviously not FPCU is it!

R But.............

When the car came to a stop last saturday, i did the short cut ECU check and i got code 55..! even when the car would'nt start.Hey maybe the CAS and the FPCU and the PTU and the TBS and the temp sencor and the oil leak and the car standing for eight days was enough for it to play with my mind:mad:

It will not beat me " i see dead people"

I know this sounds really naff. But start at the beginning , get new plugs and air filters.
