Hi all, I’m planning on replacing the AC Compressor at some point in the next 3-4 months. The current one exploded under the previous owners ownership. It’s been converted to r134a already and had all those o rings replaced.

Anyway enough waffling. Previous owner advised buying a used compressor and getting it refurbished so you can install with peace of mind that it’ll last a long while.

I found a used series 2 ac compressor but not sure if it will fit my 93 TT. I saw online on the Z1 motorsports website that they’re the same unit between series 1 & 2 cars however the connector on the series 2 compressor is slightly different so you can cut the wires and splice in the connector from my existing compressor.

I’m assuming this is correct as Z1 seem pretty reputable but can anyone else confirm knowledge of this?

Also has anyone had experience of a good AC component refurbishment company? I came across a firm on pistonheads forums called Compressortech however they have mixed google reviews so a bit uneasy on going with them.

Thanks in advance [emoji1417]

Speak to Jimmer at Powerzed…. He'll know your best options! Jimmer sorted my AC last autumn, so it's all working as it should once more:classic_cool:

Ah thanks for the wise advise. Will definitely get in touch with him then. Previous owner lived near him the lucky guy and couldn’t recommend him enough.

JDM and UK/Euro/US spec compressors have different coolant pipe connections.

That’s a great help, thanks a lot for that [emoji1417]

Hi mate,

I'm the Scottish owner that had her for 6 years.

She's been well looked after since coming to the UK around 2006 or so if memory serves me right.

I had the AC compressor replaced with a used refurb item, I'm not sure if this is the one that failed on Ollie, or if he changed it again.  Bearing in mind any used unit will be over 20 years old even with a refurb, I would buy a new one.

Shame about the sills, they were good although that was over 2 years ago, something similar happened to my little Clio daily driver, went in for a timing belt and came back with both sills bent from poor jack/lift placement...not that they would admit it!

Cheers,

Daz

Hi Daz, wow thats great to here from a previous owner - small world hey! You looked after it well too. I’ve got the huge orange service history folder that’s stacked full of receipts and I like how you continued the first owners word document service history list with dates, mileage and works notes! Ollie didn’t continue this but I have started a new word doc with all works Ive done so far, as it helps so much for keeping records. Ahh that picture you posted is lovely - super clean! Ollie actually kept a print out of the original eBay sale advert you put up and I saw those wheels on the car back then. Car is running beautifully by the way - thanks for your input into keeping this car in good condition.

I don’t think Ollie changed the ac compressor but the problem here is unfortunately Nissan have discontinued the part so you can’t get them new otherwise I would 100% buy a new one. Ollie recommended buying a used one then finding the best AC refurb shop you can to refurb it, then fit that.

Yeah shame about the sills but to be honest for a 27 year old car, otherwise the car is great. There’s been some minor lacquer peel on the paint but I’m getting all those bits resprayed so all good.

Will start a project thread on the car soon with pictures of the new 99spec front end and rest of the bits I’m going to do, so you can keep updated.

I always wondered if the aftermarket version Z1 do for the US Z32 would fit the JDM Z32, or if you could modify pipes etc, to suit, Jimmer would know if that was possible.

I was thinking of buying it back funnily enough, hadn't contacted Ollie but seen it online and was thinking about it, but it has went to a good owner ?

I still prefer the wheels I had on it ?

Yeah I saw them on Z1 website too. Earlier in this thread someone advised the JDM ones have their own design of coolant lines compared to the US/UK/Euro spec cars but probably best to talk to Jimmer as you’ve said actually to see if it’s possible to modify the US spec ones to suit or any other alternative route.

Ah that’s a shame - it didn’t last long for sale to be honest. It was a complete spur of the moment thing for me - I always keep my eye on classifieds for these type of cars which only pop up once every couple years so had to jump at the chance!

Your wheels did look super duper clean and filled the arches well - I’m glad these wheels are dark though as I’ve got bad OCD with cars - I’ve always had silver wheels and whenever you go out for a drive and get back it looks so dirty haha, drives me nuts.

Well if I do ever come to sell this beast, you’ll be on my list. Ollie’s already asked me to contact him first so I’ll leave you two to fight it out haha [emoji23]

You will love it ?

I ended up buying a C63 AMG, so it's good fun as well ?

Ah ha, the C63. What a beast - another car I love. First time I came across them in person, I heard it before I saw it - what an engine sound! Hope you’re enjoying it!
