Only another month or so and my mechanical baby will be back on the roads (fair weather driver...)

Project number one is an engine rebuild due to slight (annoying) and diagnosed as big end noises when throttling back! So I thought whilst the engine is out what sort of mods would anyone recommend & how much dosh we talking about for the parts etc

Hi Alex!

It's been a long time since we last spoke - how've you been mate?

In regard to your question - the answer really lies with how much money you have available to spend and what your goal is performance wise. The most obvious path to take is uprated turbo's intercoolers, injectors, etc. But beware that if you are upgrading these you're better off having a performance chip installed to cope with the increased boost and fuel situation.

Whilest the engine is out, I would personally recommend changing all water & vacuum hoses, detonation sensor, O2 sensors, PCV valves, electrical loom, fuel lines, fuel pressure regulator and dampener, etc. Not that there may be a heck of a lot wrong with them but with cars this old and the high temps it all gets exposed to it might be worth your while to change them while access is easy. Part wise I would suggest getting the lot from Courtesy in the USA - they're relatively cheap and quick, just beware that you'll end up paying import duty and VAT - but it is probably still cheaper than buying parts from Nissan UK.

Alex, I recently sent you an e-mail requesting the s/n of the ConZult you bought - can you e-mail that to me please on sales@zaat.com.

Cheers mate, although not too descriptive , I hope the above has given you some ideas.

Thanks for advice will follow a lot of these up..

Will get the serial number ASAP. It's a bit manic at moment with self assessment deadlines etc, still manage 5 minutes to browse the forum though......

talk to ya soon

Alex

No point in changing turbos until you have uprated exhaust and induction kit.

Exhaust would be in the region of £500

Induction about £150-200

Mark

I have actually changed the exhaust for an HKS ? not drager plus induction kit..

Hi Alex,

Funnily enough this is what I am doing at the moment!

Disconnect AIV system, if not already done!

Blank off EGR plugs

Clear out old flashings in water channel going to the rear of the block! Remove core plugs!

Goto Courtesy and order the Cambelt Kit, the full gasket kit, Turbo by pass hoses, heater hoses, hoses at front of block, pcvs and hose kit! All belts!

You will obviously need new bearings after the big end probs, so you might as well get new rings/pistons after the block has been assessed!

I am also trying to get Allen Keys to replace injector screws as a way of removing injectors without removing plenum!

Mark
