I’ve taken off my fan to remove the recirculating valves and any pipe work for cleaning and found heavy deposits of oil around the power steering cooler pipes behind the valve. I did have low PS oil when I brought the car but topped it up and haven’t noticed a drop in fluid levels.

Could be from the oil cooler.

Clean off all the oil, get the car running and see what leaks.

I cleaned up all that oil today so will hopefully be able to spot if it’s an ongoing issue.

Oh and just in case you’re wondering I’ll be waxoyling everything when I start putting it back together.

I'll be interested to hear if you know of an easy way to get the fan back in. I had to leave my off after struggling with it the other day. I do wonder if my job is made harder by the bigger UK oil cooler though.

It was a bit of a pig to get out and I don’t think I could have removed it without moving the large oil cooler and nudging the metal air intake pipe away. As I’ve got a lot of stuff stripped out already it wasn’t to time consuming, just a squeeze. I can try and make a video if it helps?

Chris delete the cooler it will probablycorrode and leak eventually anyway.

Thanks for the tip Jim, not heard of this delete before. Just to be sure do you mean the oil cooler or power steering cooler?

Thanks Jim!

I did take the PS cooler off today. Mine isn’t too bad but it’s not good enough to go back in the state that it is. So what I might do is try a refurb and if it doesn’t go well I’ll run a line from the HICAS pressure pump to the PS pot.
