Hi guy,

A number of u might remember when i first joined the forum, my Box went Bang!

I got it reconed from this guy 4 £1750 with No oil cooler upgrade-just straight recon. Anyway for over 6 months the box has been acting erratic, jumping up to 6000rpm when on the motorway, extreme late change from 1st to 2nd....

Another, rather odd noise, started happening soon after... a tapping noise when coming to a halt and would dissapear if i put the car into Neutral:confused:

Some of the fellas from here suggested that it could be the 'parking pawls'.

But get this:

its in the same garage right now

- the guy is saying it not the parking pawls and is suggesting its nothing to do with the G.Box.

- he's blaming the box ECU for the other things, but i got an ECU off Anders UK the other day to compare - not the ECU

- he is now saying that he gonna change the speed sensor....but thats it!!

Im really FVCKED off cos ive done shit loads of missions taking it to the guy and bring it back...

Does any1 know of anything, (knowing a bit more about cars/box's) that i could tel the old man at the garage about? B4 i loose my 1750 investement, because i know he aint gonna touch after!

any help much appreciated

I have an auto 300 but touch wood the box is ok.

I have experience working on ZX auto boxes on buses, I have had a fault where the bus was going up and down gears very erratically, it was the wires shorted together for the kickdown switch that caused the fault (the switch should have been open till the throttle pressed down to close the circuit). This coach had a box overhaul by so called ZF experts and was still the same, what if the kickdown switch was faulty on your car, the box wouldnt know where it was and would be erratic .

I know the ZF thingy isnt anything to do with the 300's but maybee its a similar fault.

Do u have a workshop manual Jaz as this may help u.

Just my 2p's worth and i hope i aint sidetracked u in any way...all the best

Extrem late changes (providing there's no slipping) = LINE PRESSURE SOLENOID fault. If its suddenly reving to 6k then its jumping out of gear or O/D. A faulty LPS will cause this as the box needs sufficient pressure to hit O/D and to lock up. Faulty lockup or O/D solenoid can also cause the revs to jump.

It continues to amaze me why these companies don't replace the solenoids when re-con'n the box as they are usually the underlying fault. Poor line pressure puts strain on the box and the moving parts. No oil cooler upgrade speaks for itself.

Get a full consult test drive done. I am confident it will highlight the problem/s. These problems seldom appear on a manual diagnostics.

Good luck.

Andy

PS - I dont remember providing you with an auto ECU?

Cheers guys,

John, mate u may be on to something there cos i also had a feeling that my car didn't kick down properly - maybe a link somewhere? nice1

Andy, the guy did assure me that he changed the solenoids, but again he could be telling me porkies? but it does seem so likely-LPS!

Also mate, the manual diagnostic procedure doesnt seem to work no more, after going through the steps the AT light doesnt flash:( im positive that im doing it correct because it used to work:confused: Do u have any ideas to as y it wont work?

thanx 4 the help guys

jaz

Jaz,

For £1750 I hope they replaced the solenoids!

You need to get a consult test bud with a proper test drive so the consult can detect the problems you are experiencing.

A manual diag will only detect circuit errors whereas the consult makes various calculations to determine errors whilst on a test drive. It will also check the key sensors used by the box including the engine RPM, revolution sensor, TPS, kick down switch and speed sensor.

Goto to your nearest dealer or hook up with a member who has access to one. You don't want to start dropping the tranny until you do this.

A faulty kick down switch will cause one of the problems you are describing but not the over reving.

I had a similar problem with my tranny. It was fully recon'd and upgraded because the "clutch bands" were shagged and slipping, over reving etc. After the rebuild it would still over rev but not slip. Also, it would jump out of O/D now and then. The problem was the LPS which came up on a consult test.

The garage found it hard to believe because the solenoids tested out ok! This is not a guarantee that they are functioning correctly! The LPS is operated both mechanically and electronically and the mechanical part degrades over time. There is a chance that the garage tested them thinking they were ok and just said they replaced them.

Andy

Hey Andy, Thanx for the help matey!

ur right i need a consult done! it seems so similar to wat ur describing! do u know any1 on the forum with a consult kit? Theres a dealer close by which il also try.....

As for the guy whos done the box, i dont think he'l be as cooperative as id want him to be:(

keep ya updated!

jaz

p.s. Andy, the ECU - it wasnt u! sorry mate got confused with another Andy lol....

Jaz there was a guy on here sellin conzults for 250 quid a few weeks ago, the price you'd pay nissan for a function check on the box/roadtest would probably not be much more, all you'd need is a laptop. I plan to get one in the future as DIY is the name of the game...garages are a nightmare..i know i work in one lol.

HTH John Crisp

ps i have his e-mail add somewhere if it helps

Hey john,

man that may just be a good idea! if u still have that email ad let me know....

cheers

jaz

Hi Jaz,

I'll save you the trouble: I'm the "guy" who sells the ConZults. Drop me a mail on sales@zaat.com and I'll send you the commercials, etc. It won't be today as I don't have access to my home PC but possibly tonight or tomorrow.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Danny

If any Nissan Dealer charges you more than £30 for a consult test with test drive they are ripping you off. It takes 30 minutes max. Mine did it for free.

Hi Dan, YGM;)

Cheers Andy, my 1st ever consult diag cost me £160, young, stupid......vunerable!! i should be getting my 300 bk tmrw so will take it to nissan in th mean time, whilst waiting for Dan.
