So just discovered that i can apply for a Irish Passport and i'm wondering if any of you Irish pure bloods know if i can ?

My grand parents are Irish but my mother was born in Scotland like myself.

My mother seems to think because of my heritage i can apply for an Irish passport and all that's needed is details of my grand parents.

Anyone else heard of this ?

Number of Irish passport applications rises to record level

Ireland has received 230,000 requests since January, with 76,000 coming from outside country

My Grandmother was Hungarian, I wish I'd apply for a Hungarian passport if I could to remain an EU citizen; sadly, Hungary is governed by Viktor Orban who's a right wing tosser, so probably no better off!

Yes. Your Mother can as well. If one of your grandparents was born in Ireland or one of your parents was an Irish citizen when you were born (even if born over here). (Or, as Gaz said, if you're a citizen of NI) then you can get Irish citizenship / passport. If you're going back to your grandparents, you may need to get on the Register of Foreign Births. It's all fairly painless and cost peanuts (about 75 Euro from memory) compared to the £1,000s it costs to get UK Citizenship. You'll be able to find most of the documentation online. Mine was even easier as my Mother was born in NI so I just had to prove that, and that my parents were married (I can prove I'm not a b'stard haha). 75 Euros or so and 2 weeks and lo and behold I'm now a dual national and will be able to travel through the blue gates whatever happens :)

Official info here https://www.dfa.ie/passports-citizenship/citizenship/born-abroad/ for those like me and you born outside Eire.

PS my current Z entered the EU through Dublin so hopefully she'll be Irish as well!
