Hi since I smashed up my beautiful Green 1995 300, I have been driving my older 300 most of the time being my only car, I had to take it off the road yesterday fo some major needed repairs.

 

Lucky I still have the use of my brothers 911, seeing he is still living in Hong Kong.

 

I am so embarrassed at how I have neglected my car, but only doing 1 - 2 thousand miles a year and having a bad back (no excuse really) it is now time to sort everything out before the next MOT.

 

Having sold most of the parts I had collected, I have been getting ready with the long list of parts I now need, how the prices have gone up, can’t really believe it.

 

Started stripping her down yesterday, what a mess.

 

 

The only good thing about so much oil leaking is those areas are rust free.

How low can you go.

Most stuff disconnected, to my surprise exhaust bolts came off but it does not look like I needed them, they are not coming apart.

Finally parts have arrived, but I’m sure I will find more that I need.

 

Built engine hoist yesterday.

 

 

Finally got the engine out, will start the strip down tomorrow, after a good clean up.

Just rebuild the core and have it balanced mate.

Both sides stripped down, all nuts came off but not taking any chances, I have a new kit for manifolds and turbos.

Get a rear main seal in there and a new sump rubber.I always do both now at the same time.Quite often the rubber strip is like plastic and shrinks and no amount of sealer will stop it.

Be really careful with the engine say in its sump, it’s really easy to crush the pan a little and the clearance between the pan and pick up tube isn’t much at all. The subsequent oil starvation and pan exchange is a world of frustration you don’t want. Trust me.

Can’t believe how time fly’s today was my first free day to get back to the car, built engine stand, then had to take my mums car for MOT, thank god it passed so I have some transport. Engine now on stand ready for oil pump change , rear crank seal then put everything back together with new gaskets.

 

Wow!!....just read all 4 pages of this engine refresh.

Not bad I would say for an old girl.

 

Just as I suspected and hoped, my front oil leak was from a crack in the pump casting, you could not tell from the outside but I knew what I had tried and just made more sense than the seal not being installed correctly, should have just cut the cog off instead of trying to pry it, lesson learned the hard way but that’s life.

 

While I have been cleaning the sump and putting the oil pump and rear crank seal in, my dear friend has been cleaning the engine bay.

 

Today I fitted the timing belt.

 

Back of engine tidied up EGR deleted, when the turbos are rebuilt I will be plumbing the water pipes directly to inlet-outlet pipes.

I couldn’t resist taking that photo the car is about 5 inches from the ground at the mo will make it higher tomorrow.

 

Turbos cleaned ready for the new cartridges I did not want the hassle of taking them apart, just getting the casting off took 2hrs each.

 

Engine mostly back together new manifold studs.

Still need a bit of cleaning but on the final stages now.

Garrett Turbo UPGRADE 360 Race bearing Pre balanced core and housing.

After taking the turbos and pipes home this week and after a lot more cleaning, I finally got to my friends today to put them together, problem being I needed someone to hold the casing while inserting the circlip, it is so strong the pliers kept coming off.

 

 

The other turbo we put the circlip on but I had forgotten one of the bolts so only half done but the circlip was my main problem.

Tomorrow I will get the exhaust manifolds on and the rest of the pipe work sorted, ready for the final install (I hope).

 

I think the work involved rebuilding turbos, even with a new cartridge I found hard, the cleaning etc. I could not have afforded new turbos and have saved myself half the price of new standard ones, but if I had the option would not have put myself in a position of this much work.

Tbh mate, that front circlip is the worst part, bar none. Rebuilding the CHRA is actually pretty straight forward and doesn’t take long.

This weekend I hoped to get both turbos on and adjust the suspension so the car is not 2inches from the ground.

 

Suspension adjusted being new was easy.

 

 

Turbos well the passenger side fitted fine

 

 

Drivers side just would not line up with the wastgate on, hitting the exhaust and that was that, scratching my head did not work either and kicking myself I left the old wastgate at home.

 

 

Well home and put the new and old together and the bracket is a sort of mirror image not the same. They are meant to be upgraded OEM got them from Z1.

At least I know now and can rectify the problem.

 

 

Looks like I need some core plugs will change a few.

 

Finally back at the garage, renewing some of the core plugs, purchased a set but knew I was only going to change a few.

 

 

Last one will be done when it’s off the engine stand.
