Hi since I smashed up my beautiful Green 1995 300, I have been driving my older 300 most of the time being my only car, I had to take it off the road yesterday fo some major needed repairs.

 

Lucky I still have the use of my brothers 911, seeing he is still living in Hong Kong.

 

I am so embarrassed at how I have neglected my car, but only doing 1 - 2 thousand miles a year and having a bad back (no excuse really) it is now time to sort everything out before the next MOT.

 

Having sold most of the parts I had collected, I have been getting ready with the long list of parts I now need, how the prices have gone up, can’t really believe it.

 

Started stripping her down yesterday, what a mess.

 

 

The only good thing about so much oil leaking is those areas are rust free.

Car has been running a little rough.

 

Have to stop for now, moving to Essex at weekend, will start again middle next week.

I wish I could, sold mine when I purchased the Green 300, I have ordered many of the connectors and will be replacing them myself.

Hi well after moving and a week of terrible weather, I finally went back to see my car yesterday and get on with fixing it, bit of a mess when I went to the garage.

 

Great start, half an hour later.

I used the old air con belt and a pair of grips, worked well and crank bolt was undone. Made sure the timing was set, and started to loosen the cam bolts.

Absolutely knackered now, finally got the plenum off, what a pig everything was hard to get undone, especially the water pipes at the back they had welded themselves onto the pipes.

Crank cog not moving oh what fun. :no:

Not looking forward to tomorrow so much to do.

Its hard work mate but worth in in the end.

Not a good day today.

Went to local parts shop they did not sell water hose, for the bypass.

Tried to get crank cog off, would not budge.

Tried to get bushes out of the suspension they would not budge.

Did manage to clean up the plenum a bit.

I did buy some brake cleaner, really good for getting the oil off everything.

Aha, ok, that home made tool is very clever !! I have normally used the drilling method, drill a hole down the length just above the woodruff key slot ( not all the way through or you will drill the oil pump face, then use a cold chisel to snap the cog open.

Well what a day, made a cog puller, but bent 2 heavy duty pullers trying to free the cog.

So tomorrow the grinder is coming out wasted to much time already.

I did manage to change and clean one valve cover, gasket was hard with age, not soft.

 

Maybe I should try and drill and split, rather than the grinder.

I had to get the grinder out in the end, it was not going to move.

 

That did the job, took a while, that will teach me to change it when the belt is due..

Yes shame it did not work. I had to be very careful.

I do have a new sprocket, will go back in a few days when I have recovered.

Hi my brother came over had nice weekend in Snowdonia last weekend, then he gave me the flu before flying home, so today is the first time I have been well enough to get back to the car.

 

Decided it was time to clean the lifters, they have always ticked.

They were very dirty

Do I use just oil for cam or assembly grease.

Oil will be fine for putting old cams back in. If they are new though I would go with a bit of assembly lube for the first start.

Managed to get down to the garage yesterday, got the other inlet cam out and clean the lifters, taking longer than I expected.

 

Have ordered some new spark plugs as well.

Exhaust lifters cleaned and back in, rear 2 were very spongy.

 

 

Cam has some scratches on the front.

 

 

Fuel injectors cleaned ready for new seals.

 

I'd encourage you to junk those old style injectors for new-style/upgraded. Whilst they've been cleaned and now have a good spray pattern, the coil inside could be significantly degraded as many are when they get to this age. Whilst it's all apart, it might be prudent to upgrade/change if you have the funds.
