Hi Folks

Nissan has been poorly for a long time and then my Dax Rush decided it didn't like the fuel pump and left me stranded on the side of the road.

So on the basis of cheering myself up, and stopping being a lazy git with the cars I have pulled my finger out.

So the shortie has been away and has now has a spangly new stand alone ECU and is running well.

Currently at 370bhp on the dyno at just under 1 bar boost (the engine has forged internals, 555's and bigger turbos)

No manual boost controller just pulling good and hard at a sensible level ( that will change!) and of course now up and running.

The next step is the paint and I just wondered on peoples thoughts.

My car is far from standard looking and is candy apple red, but quite faded on one side.

I am thinking candy apple red over black as opposed to silver

And wondering what peoples thoughts on wheels are.

And yes I know my car isn't for the purists

So you can say lose the body kit as much as you like - it ain't happening !!!

As an owner of a 300zx with an “interesting” paint job I know how hard it is to get a good photo to represent the paint job. With that in mind I don’t like the picture of the red over the silver however the red over black looks very cool. Are you thinking it has to be a lairy paint job?

As for the body kit, it’s not my bag but if it works for you then that’s all that matters. Out of interest what’s the roof vent for? Any chance we could talk you into getting shot of that?

The roof scoop -if it was real- would be for forcing air into the car when racing to keep the cockpit cool

The previous owner fitted the kit and I blow hot and cold over the scoop, but it's kind of part of the car now.

I'm not thinking wild graphics or anything, but all the same colour, no extra graphics although I did have a top secret idea I discussed with Mondo which may come back.

The wheels are the thing I'm not sure about. I'm leaning a bit towards gloss black at the moment.

I do think red over black will look a bit different and very cool

it's a link G4 the guy tuning it recommended it as a good balance between price and performance and so far it seems pretty damn good

10 hours of dyno and the car is better than ever

Like the colour it looks great!

Not a fan of black wheels but do look good with some colours.

Its a guy called Sam Weller his company is hybrid tune.

Really nice guy, freely admits he's not a 300zx expert, although he's done a couple before, but he's sensible and logical which was what I needed.

In terms of the ECU I honestly have no idea, there's been some rollercoaster emotional stuff going on in my life, so I simply rocked up and said help.

Well when I say simply I mean chatted for a couple of hours and handed the car over when I was happy with him.

I just needed to get some normal back in my life.

For those of you who know me a bit better I ought to explain a little more.

Father in law passed last week after a long illness, he lived in an annexe and as such was a massive part of my families lives.

So priorities shift in these situations and cars fell off the side.

Hence the handing over of things.

As normal returns, and the better weather, the Zed will be breathing fire again and hopefully be a little special in appearance.

Suggestions for wheels please

I'm very open about it and nothing other than the colour is set

Sorry to hear about your families loss Martin.

For the wheels I think a dark “shadow chrome” effect would look great against the dark candy red. I had a red fiat coupe with the shadow chrome wheels and I think it looked great.

I think that black base under the red will look stunning. Having always been fan of black accented wheels, I think it would compliment the body work.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Sam reckons the springs in the waste gates have weakened over time but he couldn't reach one of them and we were racking up a bill

So I'm thinking respray, new wheels, new exhaust play over the summer and back later on in the year to let the rest of the horse power out.

370 at the wheels is enough to be mildly terrifying.
