Hey there everybody! Finally got a hold of a 1992 300zx. It's a manual, TT, 2+2, 41k miles, and imported from Japan. Originally bought it to gift it to my pops since it has been his favorite car since release. I'm keeping it now since I assume it will need tons of money dumped into it (will post the backstory underneath). Hope to learn from everybody here and enjoy the beauty of this car with everyone :lol:
Backstory:Bought this car last March on a weekend. Coming monday, I was told I was deploying in a couple weeks, so I was rushing focusing on leaving and finding a place to garage the 300zx. Did all that, deployed, returned, and decided to start putting money into the car. On my way to get new tires, I realised the car smelled like gas all the time and when the turbos kicked, there was a puff of white smoke to the rear. Took it to a mechanic to take a look. The compression test came back...
No 1 - 160 psi
No 2 - 145 psi
No 3 - 70 psi
No 4 - 160 psi
No 5 - 145 psi
No 6 - 160 psi
From what i was told and researched, a bad ring or burned valve :(. I was told by the dealership that a compression check was done, belts changed, water pump changed, fluids changed, the smoke was only there because it was condensation, more so in the snow. There was no paperwork because it was all done in house. Damn do I feel stupid trusting a dealer. Well, now i'm stuck thinking of my options, so I will keep this one and learn from it while I save for another to buy for my dad.
