Personally mate, I would not bother. Put it through the MOT with HIDs still fitted; most garages don't even know what a 300zx is now - let alone whether those HIDs were an OEM fitment or not....

For the record, mine passed an MOT on Friday complete with HIDs still in situ...

Oh, and aftermarket LED upgrades are supposedly as illegal as aftermarket HIDs!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Rather than risk a FAIL on the (so far) unblemished MOT history, I swapped out the HID bulbs for Halogens for the last test

and put them back in afterwards. Took all of 15 mins.

…..I have clumsy sausage fingers, so it would probably have taken me longer. Not to mention the cut hands...

That - and Darren took it for its MOT, as he's had the Zed for over a year...

Only last week I looked at getting some for the main beam, they were £12 a pair, the reviews were terrible though so I didn't bother.

Being halogen, my H1's now are not as white as the HID low's I have but at least they light up the road further than the Hid's which in my book is king.

Aftermarket LEDs have a long way to go before catching up with modern production LED headlight technology. I wouldn't bother.

Stick with a low K HID kit or a standard halogen bulb.

Yup - seconded!!

got standard h3c in mine and since having all my headlight reflectors re-silvered they have been great, i've got the super white in the main beam and they are really good, in fact just bought a pair of h3c for the dip beam, not fitted them yet but will try and get a couple of pics when i do

Never changed my HIDs, always pass. Even put my Nissan Elgrand through test last Friday with HIDS etc. As said most MOT's haven't a clue whats suppose to be on an import.

In Australia I was unlucky enough to be fined for HID, ouch that hurt the wallet. Put the halogens back in and could not bear it. Bought some Jap halogens (a bit better) but then put LED in and I think brighter and reasonable.

The led being on the top and bottom of the PCB does mean tjere is a line of NO-light which is unfortunate. I modified the little bites in the base so I could rotate the bulb slightly in the socket and this angles both of the "NO-light" areas to overlap between right and left head lights. The result has been afjusted to put more light toward the centre and passenger side of the road.

After I was doing this I read about these oldish BMW LED. Looks like they would shoot all the light forward,if modded into the main beam no 300zx reflector would be used, but that would not fit in the bulb socket on low beam.

LED light apprars to be more directional so we should find one that shoots light forward and through the low beam lens, not reflect sideways via the old dull reflectors. 3-JPG.jpg

I have used a sponge with cleaner and did what everyone does to clean any dust, but no dirt on the sponge so it was already clean.
