The process to clean up and freshen up the appearance of the top end of my engine has begun. Prior to fitting a new OEM 95+ harness, 740cc injectors and BDE VTC cam gears, I have gotten hold of a bunch of spare odds and sods to get refinished.

My engine is pretty clean anyway but as the entire top end is being stripped down, I thought it high time to make everything totally fresh and new-looking before reassembly.

I've just picked up these from the vapour blaster, they're going straight to the powder coaters tomorrow to be done OEM finish, well, apart from the outer rocker covers as they're a natural alloy finish and I'll be doing those a satin silver just for some added protection.

They came up pretty well.

The intake manifold is at the vapour blasters now and will be being coated in ACF50 prior to me collecting it. The spare throttle housings will be heading there as soon as a I've finished stripping them.

The donor ones I've got are in decent condition, just absolutely filthy.

I've taken one apart to look at the rather nasty brown finish on the throttle return springs. It appears these springs are actually nickel plated, I've removed some of the finish here but they'll be going to the vapour blasters to remove all traces of it. There are a number of other springs which will be going there too.

All the steel pressings which make up the throttle mechanism will be removed and will be going to the electroplaters to be refinished in a smart cadmium plate which feature on 95+ Z32s and look a little cleaner than the nasty standard olive drab.

I actually have quite a few other metal pressings and various fasteners at the electroplaters which I'm collecting tomorrow such as the hose unions on the intake manifold, the throttle cable brackets and various assorted bolts and harness clips.

As I have a 95+ harness, I need to fit the newer style crank angle sensor. I picked a used one up in the US and partially stripped it. The main bracket and the back plate are being vapour blasted and will be anodised silver to match the face of the sensor which I had to paint as the bearing is pressed in. It gave me the opportunity to follow the how2 on TT. NET to clean the sensor ring. There was no debris inside, so the unit is in very decent shape.

This wondrous hose turned up from Japan today. New old-stock which you can't buy from Nissan anymore, this part has been NLA for as long as I can remember!

Here's the other U-shaped one which routes from the offside intake union to the check valve, again, this has been NLA for years

Throttles partly rebuilt. Turns out the spare shims and spacers I had were junk. I've ordered a replacement kit from Z1, so I'll refit everything when that comes in.

Happy with how it looks though.

Serviced and refinishing the spare S2 CAS I have. Main bracket and CAS backing were anodising with a natural anodised finish and the sections were then painted. The trigger wheel was gently cleaned and then it was all reassembled. The contact surfaces were left bare (apart from the anodising) and was treated to an aluminium grease - this bugger will never seize!

Those of you with a keen eye will notice that the bolts are not the correct ones. These are NLA at so need to take the newish ones that are already on mine and get those replated to a cadmium finish.

Had to disassemble the central part of the throttle assembly today as I'd put the spindle the wrong way round! Bit of fun beating it out and back in again. Totally destroyed my rubber mallet!

All reassembled and now bolted to the manifold with replated OEM fasteners. Slightly fiddly, but happy with the result. :)

Considering this is what it pretty much looked like before, I think it's come up pretty well.

Simon, I think we need a new “like” button just for your work. “Like” just doesn’t cut it.

Few extra bits collected from the powder coaters. Just some further parts from the platers and I'm almost ready to send it to Jimmer to go under the knife! Few minor modifications to the intake manifold and I'm there.

This is pretty much all the tin work from the engine bay that hasn't already been powder coated. Anything else like the bracket for the battery harness and the one for the relay on the inner wing next to the CC module is being cadmium plated. I have some further new old-stock hoses coming over from Japan (I don't care for silicone hoses) and some additional OEM bolts from the US.

The bracket for the HICAS modulator is out in the garage (not pictured), that's been done too. :) all the washers that go through the rubber mounts have been replated.
