My car has developed a bit of an annoying issue lately... It starts no problem most of the time but occasionally, I'll put the fob in the immobiliser, then go to start the car. At which point it's completely dead. The key also gets stuck in the ignition barrel.

I can the leave it for a while and it'll fire up no problem, but I've lost all my radio stations and the clock has reset.

Any ideas, I'm thinking an earthing issue somewhere but everything appears OK.

On the occasions when it dies, do you get anything on the first 2 clicks of the key and then it goes blank when you turn the key to engine start? Or does it just not come to life on the dash at all?

Yes, the ignition lights up but as soon as I try and turn it over it shuts straight down

You need to check the voltage at the battery Dave, check also your terminals are secure/clean because you do say it fires if left, presume you may of already wriggled them !!

Yes, just heading outside to have another look now

The clues are all pointing to accessory / ignition live change over at the fuse box. You loosing radio stations so memory feed is been lost, your key is stuck in the lock, that means feed to the barrel solenoid is been lost ( only on jap autos) the lack of imobilser action is loss of feed, all of these are on the same circuit.

What does it look like Jeff?

I've just discovered a loose earth for the sub amp in the boot... Could that have caused it?
