Checked all fuses and the ones under the bonnet all good also can hear the blue relay clicking

  • Author

Still have a problem with the lights checked fuses relays the 2 blue and the black one all 3 clicking put a spare light switch on still no side lights only when main beam on if got side lights no main beam put high beam on side lights go off cleaned plugs on drivers foot well and checked fuses there

Have you checked the fuse panel inside the car, by the accelerator pedal, top row third from the left, should be a 10 amp red one, check it, that is teh side light feed, with that gone you get all sorts of issues. That fuse can go when any work is done on the radio / console area, side lights and or connector with water in or dodgy cables.

Just had thought would the hazard switch be a problem as mine is damaged

Hazard switch should have any effect

I think its a ground problem

When you test for power are you putting a meter across 2 pins of the connector? Try testing between the live pin and a known ground elsewhere (chasis, engine, battery)

Ok gone and checked the live fuse top 3rd from the left as Jeff mentioned and it is live checked the wires on both blue relays and all live so turned side lights on nothing apart from drivers side fog but dim put head lights on nothing but side lights come on put high beam on side lights go out but high beam on rear light work fine

Certainly some crazy stuff going on and it does look like to me you'll need to work your way through yourself, seems specific to you this fault.

I will however state, you do have a control box at the rear lights, investigate this would be my advice and/or swap out for a known working one....you never know !!

I still think its a ground fault, with lights picking up their ground through other lights that aren't on, and due to the different watages only some light up. investigating the ground wires to the lamp holders would be a good start. the changeover relay between main and high switches the grounds ( so you will only see ground at the main light connector if they are switched on)

Definitely a love hate relationship this car so I need to remove the loom from the light holder back to the relays and clean where that go

so turned side lights on nothing apart from drivers side fog but dim

That dimness is a J spec side light, there are 501 bulb holders in there alongside the much brighter H3 fog light, it's very likely therefore that the left side one has a blown bulb or is not connected properly.

Just to be sure the dim relay thay are just earth wires there and the 2 blue relays are for side head and full beam

put head lights on nothing but side lights come on

Your headlight bulbs have both 'gone' perhaps ?

Turning the switch to headlights at the pod hence position 2 will turn the side lights on as well but when you mean side lights are on, are you referring to the dim light in the fog housing r/h side ?

put high beam on side lights go out but high beam on rear light work fine

Switching to high beam or 'flash' will not turn the side lights off, it will however turn off the low beam, on release of high beam the low beam will return.

Unless someone as tried to stop this happening by grounding, are there any aftermarket wires about ?

Tail lights come on when side lights are on, ie position 1 on the pod dial switch, side lights and the tail lights will also come on when the front fog switch is pressed.

When I turn to the switch to 1 nothing but a dim left fog drivers side only when I turn the switch to position 2 side lights work where the halos is but no head lights

  • Author

Rear lights are fine come on as that should fog come on when I press the fog button front and back there no after market wire from what I can see but on the 2 blue relay there 2 red white wires go into one on both relays that's crimp togeather

When I turn to the switch to 1 nothing but a dim left fog drivers side only when I turn the switch to position 2 side lights work where the halos is but no head lights

Somebody has wired the halos to come on with the low beam or headlights. The halos should of been wired to the side light circuit which for instance is one of the 3 wires that supply the front j spec fogs, one is ground and the other positive is the bright fog light itself.

Perhaps not knowing what they were doing they've completely severed the headlight wire or robbed it completely just for the halos.

You've just got wiring issues and it's now making sense, nothing to do with the relays, wire the halos to the side light circuit.

Remove the small bulbs in the front fog housings and then your halos will be the side lights nothing else.
