When my son jumped into the back of the Z today,he noticed that his bum was rather wet!

The back seat especially behind the drivers seat was soaking.

I dont think it's from the targa roof but I'll be buggered if I can find out where the water's getting in.

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers,

F.T.

The boot lid and seals look fine.

Roll on summer then I wont have to put towels down to try and dry it off.

Are there any wet spots on the roof. The water could have come through the back of the T-Tops and roled back a little before dripping off.

Yeah-its gonna be tricky finding where its coming in as the water sitting near the back seat prob won't be anywhere near where its leaking in-just where its settled. Maybe have a good look for anywhere else thats wet and try and establish the path in? You would've thought targa's or boot lid.

Run your aircon - it'll help dry it out much quicker.

You might just have had heavy rain at the wrong angle that forced its way under the top hatchback lid edge seals.

Or When it rains real heavy next. Sit out in your car (back seat) for a few hours. You'll find it eventually.

Check the carpet by the main pillers behind the front seats, see if its damp there as some time water get in by the roof, some rubber stopper just at the end of the T top channels come away and need sticking down, also check when you open the boot lid all the way up that there isn't water in side the plastic trim, as that sometimes collect water through the windscreen wipermotor.(it collects in the plastic trim and when you open the boot it come out were the hinges are at the top, usually over the back seats)

Hope you could decipher this and its some help to you

Tony

Don't run the air con on economy.

Do you have the standard spoiler on the back ?

If so, is it cracked ?

Mine leaked trhough there until I ripped the OE spoiler off.

Yes I do have the standard spoiler and even though it's not cracked,I've noticed recently that there seems to be a small gap between the spoiler and the tailgate.I suppose if it's made of sponge then the water could be getting in there!

Anyone know where I can get a cheap spoiler from?

Yes,I've just noticed that the carpet behind the drivers seat is a bit damp,no where else though!

I'll also try using the aircon but not on economy, should I set it as hot as I can stand it?

Cheers,

F.T.

Sponge !?? have you ever held one of those off of the car? they weigh about half a ton and are solid rubber! Getting rid of this I reckon would turn the 300 into a 200mph machine.........with no down-force!

So if I take of this'rubber' spoiler then the back end will be even lighter......great just what I dont need!!

F.T.

Yeah-but think of the extra sideways fun............not!

Tony, will chuck your bits in the post tomorrow! I'll be surfing this weekend if there's any swell or fiddling with the Z if there isn't.

No you should be alright, you obviously don't realise how much 15 litres of water weighs :D

But in the Summer, when it's hopefully dried out by then,I'll just make do with a sandbag in the boot!!

Functional spoilers - lighter at low speeds, sticks like glue when you boot it ! :D :D :D

I think there may be some drain tubes that run down the b-pillars from the targas. There are definitely some in the A-pillars, I know that much :D Could be worth removing the trim around the seatbelt recoil and seeing if there's any loose pipes.

Oh and one other point, why wait for it to rain??? Sit in the car while someone sprays a hosepipe on it :p :D:D:D

CheerZ,

Andy

I never realised how much fun you could have with a Z and a hosepipe!!
