Sorry to read that. Would you sell the JL subwoofer separately?

Possibly yes, although a member may be coming to view it today so I'll have to hold off untill I know.

Pretty sure I've got the origional paperwork for it too, would it be just the box or would you want the accompanying JL amplifier that it's hooked up to

Just the box thanks.

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

I wouldn't have a clue what it's worth so I'd need you to let me know what price you have in mind

I was in two minds in buying this when it was advertised but finding out it was a Cat C made things even worse and knowing that it needs loads of work doing sorry to say that, best thing I would do is get it running first before you sell it otherwise it an't worth that much as it's a big gamble for someone to buy it

Hi mate. Thanks for the advice. I am debating this, dependant on cost involved.

I've spoken to jimmer, and he thinks I've got nothing to lose firstly by placing some oil in each cylinder and hand turning then engine , then if Ok, 're fit the injectors and plenum and fire it up.

For peace of mind I'm pricing up a coolant flush, oil and filter change and drain the fuel and replace the fuel filter before doing so

Would you be interested in selling the AP brakes?

Possibly mate . I will give you first refusal I do, and you are quite near me so you could inspect them first

Hello all.

I am in need of some advice as after spending a few days poking around under the car checking for rot and signs of damage I believe I have found this cars Achilles heel.

Not sure how I missed it up untill now but it would seem the rear wheels differ in how wide they are in the arch.

The passenger side rear wheel sits 20mm further into the arch than the drivers side wheel.

I can't see any bent arms or obvious chassis damage but I have checked and double checked.

I have spoken to the only company near me with a chassis jig and just to check the chassis on it will be at least £1500. They have told me to do a cross check by measuring but wouldn't go into details and I'm not having much luck on Google.

What is frustrating is that the cat C was 17 years ago, the car has covered over 50,000 miles since then and I have 2 different lots of paper work for 4 wheel alignment that's been done and the results are well within tolerances.

I can't think of anything to cause this other that a bent chassis or possibly a poorly fitted rear quarter panel, and with that I am aware the radio antenna has been covered so might be a possibility.

Can anyone offer any other thoughts as to why this wheel is sitting in?

Lots and lots of posts on Google with similar issues even on new cars but only up to 10mm difference so something isn't right.

I am keen to know how to measure the chassis as I wouldn't want to sell it without knowing my description is genuine.

Worst case as was mentioned at the start of this thread it may be a breaker. But again not something I'm keen on doing if it can be avoided.

Thanks all, luke

I have some advise for you buddy, do not be offended but please listen, I have seen this same scenerio played out scores of times with bad 300`s just STOP right now.

Spend no more money on the car, the amount of problems you have uncovered so far is unlikely to be the end of it and unless you have full workshop facilities and skills with endless pot of cash you will be working on it for the next two or three years in your spare time, vast amounts of cash and then, trust me you will be placing an add entitled "Unfinished project for sale, thousands spent "

Hate to say it but right at the beggining of this thread I said it would be a money pit, you have effectively got a breaker nothing more, do yourself a massive favour, sit down and totally evaluate what you want to spend and what are the realistic goals.

Its heartbreaking to spend out and get caught with a lemon, but it is so much worse to waste the next two or three years to only fail, I appreciate there is what seems like a lot of help and encouragement from owners and enthusiast alike but it is your money and time been invested, remember that.

If you do decide to forge ahead, then be realistic with time and money, but try not be another victim of car love, sure there is way better ones to get your teeth into.

Sorry for the negative overtone but and I am sure many will agree this has happened so many times here and when the cars were 10 years younger too !

Thanks for the honest advice Jeff.

And as u stated, I don't want to waste money when I have 2 little ones that I could spend the time and money with instead.

As much of a ball ache as it will be to do, there are some desirable parts on it that have already had offers placed on them. So I am relatively certain I can claw back my initial outlay.

Just a pain to have a split car on the drive and to have it removed.

Appreciate your honest thank you

No problem, seems you have already made the decision as hard as it is, agree breaking any car on your driveway has its downsides but get your money back and get the shell gone, do not let it linger in the hope of making a few extra quid, rarely does that work out with neighbours and the wife !!

Good luck buddy.

Jeff

Exactly Jeff.

Easy bits to sell will be the AP brakes, intercooler and intake, alloys, audio, private plate. And the new genuine injectors.

I'd hope that alone will get me near the price I paid, maybe a few parts on eBay then get it collected

Its a pity it has to be broken but without the knowledge, machinery and workshop to do it yourself its either break or sell. :(

Yep and no one is going to pay 2k for a potentially bent z.

I'd love to have someone take it that can repair it but not at a loss, money isn't everything. But when u don't have much it is somewhat important

Result of a close inspection by a friend who works in a body shop.

Drivers side rear inner arch

Same area but on passenger side.

It would appear there is a small but obvious crease and the 2 sides are not matching as in the lip is missing on drivers side

Hi Deegan, sorry to hear about your dilemma!

If you do go down the route of breaking, I'm in need of an aerial.

Jap spares in the midlands have one but can put that on hold & purchase the one you have to claw back your money.

Sound advice from Jeff!

Good luck

Art

Hi art.

I actually have the aerial off of the car as it was removed by the previous owner in 2001 and has been carefully stored since. It looks almost new

Anytime, let me know

Admin, do I need to start a new thread to allow members to request parts, or can I keep it all in the one post?

I'd like to give everyone here the opportunity to get the best bits before going through places like ebay

I am sorry to see that this has not gone well for you.

I see you have started a breaking thread for the car.

I hope you realise the enormity of that task. The 300ZX is a large and fairly complex car for its era.

Nissan were experts at hiding screws and fixings that makes stripping a long and tedious task.

You will spend many many tens of hours on this plus the time to photo parts and communicate with buyers.

Then there is the logistics of buying packaging materials, wrapping, weighing and measuring and getting quotes for shipping.

There are a range of couriers some of whom have "drop off" locations for smaller items. Larger and heavier items need to be picked up.

Having someone at the collection address all day for one pickup is a tedious job in itself.

Maximising your return of money requires some knowledge of the 300ZX parts market. It's very easy to end up selling a small low value part that really should be sold as part of a larger kit or set of parts and to spend a lot of time doing so.

All the above written IMHO and intended to be helpful not critical.

Re : the wheels, are you sure someone hasn't just put one front wheel on the rear....or replaced a rear with a front or JDM spec wheel (same as UK front wheels). There's an inch difference in width.

I doubt it sits 20cm further in, that's very nearly the length of a ruler. I guess you meant 20mm? An inch is around 20mm.
