I want to get an internal cd burner to download tracks from the net.

Which one is the best to get and how much?

Do I have to have a certain CD player to play the recorded CD's?

liteon probably one of the best, either 40x 48x or 52x speed are current models, although ive been reading reviews of the yamaha crw-f1 and its pretty cool, has a audio master mode for precise reproduction and can tattoo your disks.

I think I can guess what tattooing is but tell me and how much

re they and what spec does the cd player have to be for me to play them?

All well and done but you find an acutall CD that allows writing at that speed.

I have a Memorex 32 speed write and I think 2 and a half mins to write a CD is fast enough.

I wouldnt go for the non major makes. From experience from when my first writer broke 13 months after I bought it, and it cost me over £200.

in my opinion you only really need a fast cd writer if you are into mass piracy, i got a shitty LG writer wit ha top speed of about 4x but who cares? i just stick it on 2x speed and leave well alone, it works fine.

Although i was gutted when i found out what LG stood for.. its fvckin Lucky Goldstar.. u remeber goldstar, man their stuff was shite(allegedley), but fair play the little burner has done its job for me..

No one seems to have mentioned Burnprrof, or Overrun Protection. Maybe they all are now, but I have a Philips CDRW 2000, and it NEVER gets it wrong, and you can use any other programes while it writes without fear of it spoiling a disk. It is foolproof.

I've got a Lite-on 32 speed writer whcih is burn proof and has overrun protection. I paid about £40 from valuelist.co.uk They now have some faster ones at low cost and are also cheap for media. You have to take what is on their list as they buy up bulk deals. They also have a DVD writer for under £200. Also try Dabs Direct.

Thanks for the replies!

Excuse my novice status but if I then copy one of these CD's, will it play on any CD Player or does it depend on how I copy it, or from what source?

Mark

does depend how you copy it to some extent, but everything is possible and all software is geared very much toward making it very simple to rip off your favourite music and films.

I've been using Nero (download from http://www.ahead.de) for years now, it will burn MP3,s directly to CD in proper audio format. Lot's of other software does the same now too.

I believe you can get a crack for nero from http://astalavista.box.sk oi wouldn't know anything about that though. :)

For copying & creating DVD's Steinberg DVD copy looks very good, also does DVD-VCD, DVD-SVCD, or your own files to DVD, VCD, SVCD.

I made some VCD's yesterday with it and it's so easy it's untrue.

As for burners they all seem very capable these days, having used a few, must admit that the RICOH burner i had on my older system never failed to copy anything, very impressed with it,would love there latest burners.

Jezz_S13, i too have just got DVD MOVIE COPY from Steinberg, very impressed with the conversion quality to VCD,the best i have ever seen, but for one problem, could be due to me having the most terrible flu at the moment, but when it burned the second part of the film to disc the audio was miles out of sync,it did not even seem to be the same track of audio, any ideas,or is it me!Another prob if you can call it that,in the New Project Wizard,in project settings it asks for PAL or NTSC,this is ok,then it says Number of total discs for disc set!,not to sure on this, then next Position of disc in disc set!again not to sure, then it asks for VideoCD Data Track Fixed Size(MB),does this just stay at 5mb all the time, must admit i have only just loaded the program and burned a VCD more for a test than anything due to feeling like shite!any help would be wellcome,i have no patience at the mo,cheers,

ps the film in question was originaly in NTSC region one, converted to VCD1 pal,Ac3 sound.Tony;) :D

LOL, I to have been i'll so haven't played with it properly yet, i only got it on Friday. My reason for getting it is for DVD use as all the other methods available are such a pain in the arse. unless o course the DVd is less than 4.7Gb But not many are.

I'll let you know how I get on.

yeah it is Tony. :)

My SCSI 32X reader was £100+ a few years ago, and for perfect ripping of CD audio you can't get better than a plextor.
