The point of it was to send something into space and for the boosters to be reused. The reason was to do it on a cost effective basis to prove that space exploration didn't have have the associated costs of regular manned missions. The main aim of the project was for the boosters to be returned for reuse.

What better thing to sentd up than one of Elon's products from one of his other companies, a Tesla car. Might as well make it amusing too. :)

Best place for a Tesla, as far away from us as possible. Horribly built planet killing things.

I think what Elon Musk's Tesla and Space-X companies are doing are things that no one else is. Sure, the mining of hard-core for the batteries is neither energy efficient nor pollution-free, in fact quite the opposite, however battery technology is making huge advancements and all of this is progression. The drive train and technology in the units are pretty awesome.

Long may it continue and long may the advances pick up speed.

Batteries will become much more efficient, much longer lasting and much more green.

As a human race, we can't keep burning foil fuels, there has to be progression.

I for one love the combustion engine, its fun, exciting and much easier to access however it has had its day, just like the steam car, steam engine and now soon-to-be diesel engines.

Don’t get me wrong mate I’m not a Luddite and I totally agree with you that an alternative needs to be found to fossil fuels. In fact the sooner everyone who doesn’t care about cars switches to an alternative the better because then more fossil fuel will be left for us enthusiasts.

Current battery technology is a placebo though. Producing the batteries themselves does far more damage than a lifetime of driving an ICE powered car and the lifecycle from production to scrappage of an electric car is environmentally worse. Perhaps batteries will become more efficient and environmentally friendly but not for a while yet. Personally I think cars will switch towards using capacitors rather than batteries. The thing that gets me most though is that hydrogen fuel cell technology has existed and is proven over decades of use in thins like space programmes etc. It would fit our daily lifestyle much better than a battery powered car too because you simply refill it once it’s run out. No government wants to pull their finger out though and make that first leap towards sustainable hydrogen production and an infrastructure for the vehicles powered by it.

Agreed. I'm actually working on a project with a company in Wales (Riversimple) who are developing a fuel cell vehicle manufactured from carbon fibre. Whilst it's no sports car, the technology is pretty awesome and I think that's where it's likely to go. GM's Hi-wire was one of the first that I thought would go somewhere, however I am sure they got paid off by the oil companies.

Apparently it took it a wrong turn and is heading for the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter

Does the Stanav work as a mirror image when you are up above it in space ?

Oh my goodness the video Testla have released is pure CGI, typically no stars in the background and motions more akin to a string puppet, jeez don`t tell me they really have you fooled ??

Jeff

The "official" Tesla in space "beemed" from space..... yes right, so take a still from the video ....

tesla.JPG

and enhance the brightness and reduce the contrast and hey look square edges and brush marks !!! lol

tesla1.JPG

They'll always be a conspiracy theory...

The earth is flat, 911 was an inside job and cheese is actually a mind control drug.

No conspiracy theory here, the tesla video is plain faked nothing more, so much news today is and why? who the heck knows??

Jeff

I don't think the reasons indicated for it being fake are just. Objects act completely differently in zero G, they have next to no mass and move about as explained above.

The no stars visable is also easily explained. It's due to saturation of light. When photographing a planet at close range, the light emitted from the planet saturates the background completely. You see it all the time from NASA probes. In fact their last lot of imagery from the Juno orbiter around Jupiter which has just been released also shows no visable stars.

I don't buy the fakers on this story I'm afraid. Need better or more evidence than that.

I would like to add however that the main core did fail to land. 3 of the 4 thrusters didn't reignite so it crashed 300ft away from the drone ship at 300mph.

See guys, I too look up and wonder at what I see and what we have been educated to believe is fact, yes educated to believe, non of us know these or any other facts about religion, the meaning of life and all that crap are real or not, it is what we are told.

I have no axe to grind about bringing truth to the lie about any of the hundreds of conspiracy theories that have always been around and always will be but what I have leaned to question what I am told, to be inquisitive in life or what is it all about, just get herded along with the rest of the sheep?

So lets assume for one moment the tesla video is faked, for what ever reason but it is faked, now if they can and do fake such high profile imagine then image what else is, one lie becomes another and so on.

I take what appears on the tv news these days as selling stories first, ratings and actual news items way down the list, it is actually quite funny to watch when you can take away the drama and see through the smoke and mirrors of it all.

The testla video, yes the reasoning why there is no stars is about light saturation, come on guys that was the reason used on the moon landings when the camera`s were little more than box brownies ! its 2018 they saying they sent a car into space but the computer camera technology cannot see stars due saturation COME ON !! its oh so convenient to have these 60 year old answers at the ready, so hey we have not progressed at all since the 60`s then ? that is plain daft, mobile phone camera`s are something like one thousand time better than the 60`s moon landing version.... oh and zero gravity has NO effect on light and cannot be the cause of the clear photo shopping that has can be seen.

Remembering this is all just a bit of fun and I am no tin foil headed theorist desperate to reveal the truth, we are all just observers of our world what ever it is, some just choose to look for ourselves rather than be told...oh and you must know rockets do not work in a complete vacuum ...right ?

Zero gravity does not have any affect on light, absolutely true, however it has an effect on the mass of an object and the way it moves in space and subsequently how that is then viewed. It's often how scientists work out what an object is in space. An object will appear to shimmer more quickly in zero gravity because the object is able to move at a completely different way to how it would in a gravity situation. I worked in remote sensing for the Ministry of Defence for number of years in the 2000s and we studied the way light and radio waves act on objects moving at different speeds. It has nothing to do with the speed of the light or radio signatures, but how the object moves about its own axis in a zero g and vacuum situation.

The reason you see stars when they're on the moon is because they are looking directly away from the surface into an area with no atmosphere, just like we would in the night sky when there's no light pollution, they appear crisply.

On the same vein, explain away all the hundreds of thousands of photos NASA take looking directly at planets with no visible stars in the background.

Don't you think they would have 'photoshopped' in stars if they were they trying to make folk 'believe' and to allay any noton of a conspiracy theory?

Still barely enough evidence to even consider it to be fake at this time.

Edited by Funkysi

FWIW, I'm open to all theories, however there just isn't enough evidence to dispell.

Christianity on the other hand and creationism is definitely a conspiracy.

Hear hear! Cannot stand religion of any kind. Backwards teachings of fairytales serve only to stifle progress.

You are getting the point I can see > Ref: ( Christianity on the other hand and creationism is definitely a conspiracy ) do not believe everything you told and that is all I am saying, but technology has launched forward so fast in the past 60 years we barely have time to get used to it before it gets an upgrade again, and again.. I read a very interesting piece the other day, 8K tv`s due out this year what happened to HD AND 4k tv`s, the article goes on to say the next generation of tv`s will be more life like than reality itself... now that is awesome, but oh sorry we cannot make a camera than can take pictures of stars when close to another light source ...come on even my 8 year old nephew knows that is bs !

Jeff

Sorry, that still doesn't answer anything.

When viewing detailed close range planetary NASA imagery on my 4K TV, I don't question why stars are not visible able when they're not actually imaging the stars, it has absolutely nothing to do with how hi tech a TV or camera system is, it's purely down to lighting environment.

Again, they'd photoshop in stars should they think this would ever be challenged.
