Has anybody come across the new rules starting in May this year, aftermarket HID lamps will be a rejection in a lamp not designed too run them originally.Bit of a PITA if your testers cute and knows they should not be fitted and fails the car.

The voice of reason - thank you!

Seconded.....

......And another point, from one of the posts above, refers to HIDs AND LEDs; and to having washer systems, levelling etc. Well, not all new cars with LED lights have a headlamp washer system! My last SLK had OEM HIDs and had the intelligent lighting with washer jets - but the new SLC has LED intelligent lighting but no washer system....??

.....And I have just bought an LED upgrade for Julia's Evoque - as the OEM halogen lights are even worse than the old Zed ones - but that has levelling and washer jets. So will I get away with that?

And as for swapping out my Zed's HIDs for H3s, just for the test - that won't be a 5 minute job; as I made the effort to seal up the rubber boot to make everything look OEM a long time ago...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Can you provide a link to where this is officially documented?

I'm not aware of it being on any online documents, go into your local cop shop and ask about their current violations regarding exhaust noise. They should be quick to show you, there was certainly no hesitation for me! I'd go and ask on your behalf, but im currently in Bulgaria. Also worth remembering that MOT regs (road worthy) and police regs (road legal) are two very different things.

Now my first argument (I had an imported S13 silvia at the time, this was about 15 years ago) was that my car is an import and not E-type approved; however they said it would simply be compared to the closest equivelant on the books if I took it to court. I was also told if I decided to take it to court they would also raise charges of dangerous driving that 'both him and his partner witnessed the previous day'. Got to love a dodgy cop ;-)
