Managed to get a nice condition carpet from Ian last week. Last night I removed the dash & the old carpet but struggled to tuck the new one under the heater matrix as it's a really tight gap. It was dark at the time so couldn't see much but has anyone got any tips to make it easier to fit or do I just keep trying to force it in?

The front centre part of the carpet is a bit of a pain as it doesn't keep its shape due to the centre sections having bits cut out etc over the transmission tunnel. The best way to get this part tight and well fitted is to have another person hold the other end so that you both take the tension of the carpet and slide it up that way....if that makes sense. It will slide under it with tension either side under a slight seesaw motion.

You want to take the carpet out and fit the front part first using the above method.

Make sure the lip hasnt folded over that you can't see, and as Simon says try to feed it in.

Can't see a chisel being applicable here.
