To be honest Tony, don`t do it yourself, get it to a gearbox specialist in your area such as >>

Not all zed autobox`s have a drain plug and will need the sump removing, and it very quickly becomes very messy as the sump holds more than a litre that you cannot drain out and it gets everywhere !! that said the sump needs removing anyway to remove and clean the strainer, if you just release the fluid from the drain plug if you have one, only a couple of litres will come out, hence removing the sump gets more out when you release the strainer and of course you will need a new sump gasket.

 

Average price for the work around £120 to £150 I would think.

Yup - whilst I have never attempted it, I'd certainly agree with Jeff, Tony!!

 

And auto-box fluid (especially "used") is just horrible stuff. When I fixed my leaking PAS-oil cooler, the mess was bad enough...!!!

 

I can see the upside of being on my back, covered in oil and playing with holes as much as any man might - but not where a 300zx auto-box is involved.....:lol:
