The thread title says it all really, on idle and when driving the engine fan seems to spin up extremely fast and the car sounds like a jet engine. After listening to Tom's car on idle I'm beginning to think maybe I have a problem here.

I took a quick video of it after the car had been idling for a few minutes which I'll upload to YouTube shortly.

Just wondering if any of you have seen this before?

Thanks

According to Z1 link I posted earlier:

"Nissan produced the fan clutches with a slight difference for the naturally aspirated and twin turbo models. Visually they are the same

other than a yellow dot on the front face of the TT clutch and an an orange/red dot on the face of the NA clutch. As a replacements we

use the Twin Turbo fan clutch on both NA and TT models, however you can purchase the more expensive NA replacement as an option below"

Hi Mate,

I think I still have a TT one in my garage.... It was BNIB and sitting on Jeff's shelf at Zedworld for a while, until he fitted it to my Zed in 2012.....

I covered about 15k miles with it, and then bought another brand new one from Z1 in the summer of 2016, when I also fitted a new radiator etc., due to coolant loss and overheating issues.

I can't be sure the coupling was not at fault, since it was previously unused. But you're welcome to have it FOC, to see it if cures your problem. I'll dig it out today and post it next week if you want to try it.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Richard you hero that would be greatly appreciated, it sounds like it's a hell of a lot less used than my current one so will hopefully do the trick.

I'll PM you.

Quick update on this! I received Richard's clutch fan around a week or so back and finallyyyyyyyyy made time yesterday to fit it, as with everything though, nothing is as easy as it seems.

First issue, my car is too low to fit my jack under and I had no wooden blocks to drive on to raise it. That's fine, maybe I can wing it with just unclipping the top half of the fan shroud.

Second issue, finding the actual screws the shroud is attached with took longer than I'm willing to admit. I was eventually able to remove those after taking off a boost pipe covering the left screw and the right screw was fairly accessible anyway. I began to wiggle the shroud trying to unclip the top half to no avail so decide to take a closer look with the flash light and lo and behold my actual fan itself has a couple of inch long stress fractures along the middle of it. Great.

So, instead of risking it I just put everything back as it was and went back inside for a cup of tea. Now it's time to source a new fan.

Haha don't stress out too much.

The fan shroud is really mostly one piece with a little strip that unclips from the bottom. Two bolts at the top and two at the lower half iirc.

The fans regularly get these cracks. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find a mint one. If it doesn't look like it's going to split all the way through I personally wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Quick follow up, I managed to get a better condition fan off of Tom so fitted that along with the fan clutch and it's back to running nice.

Ended up taking around 2 hours with some help, thanks for all the assistance my dudes. Was a pretty painless process with all the help

Took another vid too, sounding sweet as now.
