Going to get laughed at with this one but how do the air vents work!

Yep can tell I am new to 300 ownership! I cant work out the Heating/Fan controls on the car at all! I can get air up at the Screen and thats it. I cant work out how you get air to come out the cabin vents? I wouldnt have posted something as silly as this but a mate of mine had a look at the weekend and couldnt work it out either so now I feel less silly!

S1 controls don't allow you to set where the air comes from, aside from the windscreen vents.

If you have an ambient temp display on the pod and a "Hi / Lo" setting for the heater fan, you have S1 controls.

Nothing silly just knowing the system is the key.

So as yours is a series 1 the heating and ac system is fully automatic using a series of cabin sensors to decide on where and how much air goes to the lower ducts, the middle vents and the dash vents. You can force windscreen defrost vents but other than that you have little control in auto mode, the later models did address this with a different ecu and control panel, many people fit them to earlier models to increase the control.

Later control pod in picture below has a mode setting.

These are the pages from the '93 US spec owner's manual for both early systems (series 1) and later (series 2).

Although for LHD cars the principles are the same as for RHD.
