I'm only a few months late in getting started on this group buy work, but it will be starting next month. :) There is, however, now a catch for all of those involved...

As many will no doubt be aware, my name has not been spoken in a nice manner at LA Autos in Shrewsbury for quite a while now. Mr Lee Dent has been incredibly vocal regarding both me personally and my business. This seems to have culminated in threats being made (to third parties, obviously) a couple of months ago.

Call me suspicious if you will, but I can't help that think if someone turned up at his place to have work done with a lovely new interior in their Zed (courtesy of me), he could see an opportunity to damage it as a means of getting back at me. It's not beyond the bounds of reason in my opinion.

To that end, I will be asking EVERY participant in the group buy to sign a disclaimer. This will basically absolve me and my business of any responsibility for their interior work should they choose to use Lee Dent or LA Autos and said interior sustains any damage whilst there. I can't control who people use for their mechanical work, but I can protect my business!

I don't want to do this by any means. But that's how it's going to be, I'm afraid. If any participants are unhappy with this, feel free to PM me to discuss it. In the meantime, I'll be contacting everyone to start arranging dates and whatnot. :thumbup1:

That's fine by me Si, I certainly won't be going back. Especially how he spoke to me tonight on Facebook. February would be good for starting mine mate, I'll drop it all off to you.

Why do businesses feel the need to resort to tactics like this to userp the competition. It's a niche field and so few people doing it, it's not like there isn't enough of the pie for everyone to get a slice..

But then on the other hand, you have to be careful making claims that he damaged your interior with no absolute proof as it could be taken as defamation. A disclaimer is a solid idea though! Protects everyone involved.

This doesn't involve competition; this is just about someone who's proven themselves absolutely untrustworthy on virtually every conceivable level.

The disclaimer simply protects me should any of his customers (some of whom are also participants in my group buy) sustain any "damage" to their newly-trimmed cabins whilst their Zed is in his hands. It's very sad, but I feel it's necessary in this instance.

Maybe missing the point, but if someone's interior gets damaged away from your workshop and post completion, how could it ever be your responsibility?

Seems simple enough to me as a large number of people pay garages to do work on their zeds therefore imperfections could be passed stating it came that way from the supplier.

I'm allergic to anything north of the M4 anyway

My concern is that, as part of a seeming vendetta, damage could be done to seams (for example) and potentially be made to look like poor workmanship on my part. That is simply something I'm not prepared to leave myself open to, hence the disclaimer.

A tutorial on how this could happen or be caused would be more helpful surely than saying the guarantee is void if a customer takes his or her car to a certain garage...i mean how far does this go in relation to risk..if my car was in getting rear window tints and the "assassin" was in the same building would this void my warranty?

You want a tutorial on how upholstery seams can be sabotaged...?

As for how far it goes in relation to risk, I've explained that in my opening post. As Dent doesn't do window tinting anyway, I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to prove here.

I do see your point but thought it a bit odd as the risk to him is far greater. If he points out damage that the owner (having an intimate knowledge of their own pride and joy) knows for a fact wasn't their before, is going to know it was him....just as much chance of it affecting his business.

How will you enforce it? If the worst does happen and he damages an interior, how will you know they were there? Knowing the disclaimer is in place I doubt they'll admit it.

Ok the Lee Dent affair has been dealt with by the club and Simon is not a trader now but we are allowing this group buy as it was started before Simon ended his trader status so this thread is now closed and all dealings can be done by PM's emailes and phone calls.
