My latest import has just arrived and looks stunning and totally stock. its down having the fog light sorted and MOT's, but there is a small problem. The drivers side door lock seems to be knackered, wont lock and my mechanic says he can see bits of springs etc loose inside. what are my options here? Is it possible to get a replacement from Nissan given the key number?

You can always change all the locks, but not ideal I know. May be the cheapest option. I'm not sure if nissan will manufacture new barrels to spec nowadays. Maybe a specialist locksmith can re pin a barrel to match the key.

Nothing to worry about a new lock and key from Nissan around £6o, handle needs removing from the door to fit though, failing that a second hand unit, you may even be able to use the parts from another one but retain the barrel so no need for an additional key.

Did you mechanic mention which part seemed knackered? The plastic attaching cam from the lock barrel to the control input rod is a common failure item and when it breaks, the barrel will just spin inside it’s housing without unlocking or locking the car.

my mechanic says he can see bits of springs etc loose inside.

. .

Bet this is what he is seeing, the plastic quadrant broken and fallen away, his view in the door will be severely restricted as on the later model zeds Nissan made some effect to shield the lock mechanism from break in.
