I don't have the whole answer for you but I'll have a try. I think you will lose it, because the system requires the VTC solenoid on the back, a camshaft with the correct oil galleries in it and the twisting ramping mechanism on the front. You have lost 2 of those things by my understanding. The solenoids will still click in and out at the back but nothing will happen.

Having had a google into this, your camshafts appear to retain the oil galleries but I don't think the JUN sprockets do. :clover: wait for a few more answers mate :)

Would there not be a serious loss of road driveability with the vvc disabled and high profile cams, kind of like the point having variable valve timing is it not? unless its is going to be a track car only.

According to the Speciality Z site you don't need to remove the VTC system when using JWT camshafts:

http://specialtyz.com/shop/300zx/jwt-camshafts.html

"Please be sure to remove the valves located in the back of your stock intake cams. They are REQUIRED to be transferred over to the new cams.

If you do not do so you will lose the amazing Nissan VTC system."

Has he not lost the gears on the front of the engine?

He replaced the OEM ones with adjustable cam gears which i would assume do not have vvt solenoid on them.

The solenoid is at the back as I understand it.

If his front Sprockets look like this...

I don't see how he can have VTC, despite the ECU and solenoids doing their thing, the camshafts having the oil-ways, I believe he is missing the mechanism at the front.

Unless you have either OE cam gears or BDE cam gears, you cannot use the VTC system. The mechanism inside the cam gears is what changes the cam overlap
