Hey guys, this is my first post!

 

I dont yet have a 300zx. I used to have a 200sx, then blew two cylinder heads and bought a NA Supra. That got nicked around 2 months ago.

Need a new car.....thought that 300ZX looks sweet.

 

So basically how does it handle and accelerate compared to the 200sx or the supra?

My 200sx did 0-60 in around 6.5 secs, and the supra just over 7 secs, due to it being a heavy lump!

 

Does this 4 wheel steer reduce the fishtailing when you are puching it?

Is it very similar to the 2hundy then? As in the 2hundy is the little brother.

Simple to modify to a good level.

 

Induction kit, Exhaust, De-Cat (Optional), Chip and up the boost from its pathetic 9PSI and you will be pushing 400BHP.

 

I think the 5.6 is being conservative. Nissans offical times say 0-60 in 5.2

The best thing you can do is to get in one and see what you think, obviously not in this weather though! Where abouts are you? Forget the 4 wheel steer-its sh1t, its so minimal you hardly notice it. Certainly doesn't help with the back coming out when you're giving it some welly. Mid-range on the TT in my opinion is what its all about! Still makes me smile after a couple of years.

The 300zx is quite light at the back so it does tend to whip out now and then. But the good thing about the 300zx is that it's so easy to get control again. It's almost as if the car corrects itself.

 

If you fit Variable traction control from Race logic you can really have some fun. Most of the time I leave mine set to 15% slip unless it chucking it down with rain.

 

Although people here state 5.6 and Stuart says 5.2. This is a standard 300zx Twin turbo. Most of us on here have at least an induction kit and modified exhaust so we are probably looking closer to 5.0 (especially with the launch option of traction control ;) ).

As James says where are you located. I'm sure there are plenty of member on here that wouldn't mind taking you for a spin.

I have a 300ZXTT and a 200SX (S13), so am in a good position to give you a comparison...

 

The 300 feels a lot more solid (heavier car with better (harder) suspension) and thus doesn't feel much faster than a 200 [note both my cars are stock except a Mongoose zorst on the 200] but they are a little faster as stock.

 

The 200 has lovely turbo boost - this is much smoother with less lag on the 300. For normal driving, I prefer the 200 in many ways as it's less of a full-on sports car and more of a comfortable, all-round car, which can be fast if you want it to be. The steering on the 200 has un-progressive power, which means it's light all the time, unlike the 300.

 

Both my cars are autos BTW. I like the stealth aspect of the 200, as it's faster than it looks. the 200 is also a lot cheaper to run and maintain.

 

300's have big, complex engines - lots to go wrong - it seems to be a mixture of luck and how well you look after the car. But 300's are amazing when you boot them. Lot's of adrenaline and fun;) :D They also look the dogs, even without aftermarket touch-ups.

 

Stock power - 200 has 170BHP

300 has 280-300BHP

 

300 has targa tops which are nice in summer (a few days in UK !!) and auto air con. Lights are better on the 200 (pop-up) due to low bonnet on 300. Both cars are also dirt-cheap and one of the best buys in this type of car. With these cars you don't pay for a name, you pay for a good car.

 

200SX = fast coupe (great for round town and motorways)

300ZX = GTO tourer (great for posing and motorways)

As Stuart says the it is easy to lost the back end of the car, but its easy to get it back. I dont think i kicks out the back becuase its light the car has 52/48% weight distrbution which is rather good, and considering there is a huge back window, heavy spoiler, rear diff, HICAS (4 Wheel Steering) rack, petrol tank and spare wheel, there is a lot of weight on there. The back end comes out becuase of the power I think, and some times its not that easy to kick out.

 

Loads of times I have gone round empty roundabouts thinking I will have some fun, drop it to 2nd and floor it and just ended up flying round it pointing the correct way all the way round.

im still a relatively new 300 owner, had it about 3 months, and its my daily driver, and i still look forward to everytime i drive it, it has huge presence on the road and u tend to get staired at an awful lot which u get used to, around town the big motor happily purrs along and is good in town traffic, (but mines an auto and cant comment on a manual), from the lights u can leave most cars in the distance, and on motorways acceleration from 50mph is brutal. they can be tail happy but u get used to knowing the limit quite soon, and they do correct easily, fuel consuption and servicing cost will be high but there is lots of tech info available here and AndyZ can supply most spare parts at very reasonable prices, get someone who knows there stuff and take them along to look at a few examples. happy hunting
