Looking to get my Z back on the road for spring and searching for some replacement front disks & pads. I have the old style, dark grey Ksport 330mm set

Was wondering if anyone has compared the standard K-Sport pads to Ferodo DS2500s, as the price difference is huge? Also I assume I would need the 6mm>8mm bolt inserts?

Will keep looking but unless anyone knows of anywhere different here are the cheapest I've found the discs so far :

Pads (cheapest for both the K-Sport & Ferodo pads):

I have Ebc yellowstuff in my 8 pot D2, I'd be careful with bluestuff, as they are a race/track pad, they are also technically illegal for road use in the EU.

Depending on the age you may need the adapters as they changed the design of the centre section.

Paid about £500 for new discs and pads for mine a year or so ago.

Bluestuff NDX are not the same as plain Bluestuff and the two are often conflated. NDX pads work fine for road use.

As for ECE R90, when I checked a while back it only applied to the original factory fitted pads and not pads fitted to

aftermarket calipers (like AP and Ksport) used on the road. Has this changed?

I was under the impression it still applied to aftermarket calipers etc, but may be wrong

But "Bluestuff NDX is a high friction sport and race material which is not road legal for EU markets where R90 is required. OK for road use in USA and Asian markets."

Neither bluestuff or ndx passed r90 tests, probably for their cold performance.

Don't get me wrong they are an excellent pad on the track,

They won't have passed R90 for applications where they were being used as direct replacements for factory fitted pads in

an otherwise stock setup.

The R90 compliance testing relies on comparing the performance of replacement pads with those originally fitted. In the case of

aftermarket BBKs with completely new larger discs, calipers and pads it is not possible to compare like with like and so R90 doesn't

apply.

I'd probably lean more towards a fast road pad, Yellowstuff are closer to what I'd want from EBC. Also there are Pagid pads on that web page. Not had any experience with those before, OEM spec or performance level.

I've been happy with the performance of Ferodo pads in the past. Quite dusty but thats not really an issue.

Do Yellowstuff pads still suffer from crumbling round the edges? I had two mates who had them on different cars a few years ago and it happened to both, not sure if it was caused by grooved discs though (with the pads being fairly soft?)

Are Bluestustuff pads ok at low speeds and everyday driving?

It's very rare I will do a trackday, possibly 1 a year. So mainly for occasional use over the summer months, including a bit of spirited driving on clear country roads.

Bluestuff NDX pads have very good bite from cold (the coefficient of friction is > .6μ when cold) which is

unusual for "race" pads which normally have poor braking performance when cold and only start performing

when the pads and disks have come up to temperature.

I've used them for a while now and have been pleased with their performance so far for road use. They are

quiet and after bedding in properly have low dusting. They are also pretty kind to the disks (low rate of wear).

Interesting read this, I have had my Bluestuff NDX pads now, with nearly 3k miles on them. The bite from cold is very good IMO, I did consider DS pads but was put off by the reviews, and lack of “bite” when cold. The pads did give off a fair bit of dust at first but it has got less with use.

Hi Adam,

I'm going off-topic from your brakes question - but I can answer your post-editing issue.... Your membership has lapsed; as the editing function is only activated for subbed members mate...

Arrrrgh forgot to renew last summer, been a bit busy will resub!

Whats the main difference between Bluestuff & the NDX version?

The DC Performance site I posted above has the Bluestuff pads for £115, doesn't say NDX anywhere though.

Different friction compounds. Bluestuff was their first "race" pad superseded by the NDX type.

NDX pads are marked on the back face as below:
