Hi All,

The muppet that had my car previously decided to wire in his stereo by cutting all the wires from the plug, rather than getting an adapter (and did the same to the aerial wire as well).

I tried to wire in my stereo at the weekend (boy was it cold) and unbeknown to me I managed to short the lighting circuit. Stereo fine - lights not! Of course I find out the lights are knackered when I come to go home last night, so not only snow/ice, but without vision! Incidentally handles just fine on ice!!?

Anyway, can anyone point me in the right direction for what wire is what?

I think the following (on a Jap import), after managing to identify the speaker wires OK.

Yellow - Battery (permanent live)?

Blue - ACC (live on ignition switch)?

Green/Red - Earth (is this the earth, or something else?)

Red/Black - feed to electric aerial.

Some strange things happened yesterday when I was testing the circuits.

1. Testing amps between Green/Red and Yellow seemed to activate the lights.

2. Testing amps between Green/Red and an earth (I used the cigar lighter body) caused the light on circuit fuse to blow. This gave no resistance when I tried to find the earth using the ohms tester?

Have I found the light circuit for the stereo rather than earth? Does it earth on the stereo chassis rather than through the loom?

Other quick questions!

Does the aerial need an amplifier or something - the signal appears very weak? Of course, the stereo could be knackered!

The speakers show about 4.5 ohms each - does this mean the amplifiers, etc. have been bypassed? I haven't looked yet!

Thanks for the help from all you experienced people!

Stuart

Stuart,

Thanks Jamiee,

You can mail me at raynors@mdctech.com

(I though I had the e-mail address shown as an option, but these bulletin boards are just too advanced for me!)

At least I now know how NOT to fuse the lights! And it only took 3 fuses to find the problem!
