Has anyone had any experience of these Telematics boxes?

Specifically have you ever had your insurance premium raised or lowered because of one by driving well or not?

No I haven't. My premiums are low anyway and I couldn't think of anything worse to be honest. We all like a spirited drive once in a while when the conditions allow, would you really want to be penalised every time you did that?

I'd happily pay money not to have one of those fitted.

Yeah I've done the usual, confused, meerkat etc etc

I'm 47 with 9+ years NCD but my wife is a lot younger than I am and only passed her test less than 4 years ago. It drops to about £190 just for me.

I tend to agree - they do have their uses, though........

My son has one it's his first year of driving so it keeps him to the speed limits. All young drivers should have it fitted for the first year till they get used to driving.

...And this is certainly when they prove a good idea...

...But since you're lucky enough to have a wife who could just pass as your daughter :wink: then you have 3 options....

1. Don't put her on the insurance policy

2. Put her on the insurance, pay the price and relax with a smug grin on your face that you're married to a lady 20 years your junior

3. Fit the big-brother-box until your good lady reaches adulthood.....

Or as a 4th option, re-evaluate your car choice. It's a possibility that your insurers have a history of paying out on claims involving Honda CRVs. Granted, it does seem a sensible car, but if a fair few CRVs have been in accidents, it could load the premium irrespective of your driving record.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm tending towards option 4 at the moment, even though its a Honda which other than the Civic are pretty much universally owned by older people. The quote for just having me on the insurance was still £190, for a 12 year old diesel SUV, my BMW M6 was only £40 a year more than that!
