Just wondering how "costly" these cars actually are?? i dont mean routine stuff, or mods that have failed, i mean unexpected mechanical/electrical failures causing a breakdown??, as by the very nature of this site we will hear of probs but i keep reading about how the zed is not reliable, but wonder if this is just a minority as mine has cost me very little, eg PTU, heater matrix, and a rad hose!! total unplanned expenditure in a year==== 275quid in bits 120quid in labour, not too bad in a year, how much have u spent ?????

About £250 in 6 months. Air-con pump, power steering hose , bushes and lots of power steering fluid.:D

Very little TBH, I just mod everthing before it breaks ;)

The only breakdown I've had in 4 and a half years was caused by one of the clutches in the auto box breaking, stopping it changing up out of 2nd on the motorway. That cost nearly £2k but that's mainly because I took the opportunity to upgrade.

Other than that it's been very reliable, (and I used it as my main transport for 3 years!) but we all know they're anything but cheap to run !

LMAO mines been really reliable - it hasn't broken down ONCE since the engine came out :p :D

Turbo failure in Feb last year - its gonna be back soon(ish) just need some flywheel bolts :D

Cost me an arm and a leg this year - not good when also buuying first house etc.. I neeeeed some moneeeyyyy

CheerZ,

Andy

New Clutch, fitted and Skimmed flywheel £670

All in all it hasn't been too bad last year. I've owned my car now for just over 1.5 years and in this time had to recore the radiator and replace the two reservoirs either side of the radiator (two separate occurrences) which cost me a total of £300 in parts and labour. The only other expense I've had were a cambelt change and two replacement tyres (245/45ZR16 Bridgestone S-O3's) for the Jap rear ones - cambelt: £400, tyres: £220).

Not too bad all in all.

Hmm, where shalll i start, like andyduff, no breakdowns form april-june, cos it was eing repaired..and no break downs since sept, as its still in the garage...in fact its been in the garage longer than it been on the road since i bought it  apart from that great!

cheers

oh costs...6k to buy it, 6k to then repair it, and waiting for the next bill this week. bargain i tell ya, its a bargain and cheap run around, if you fly a plane that is

I'm on my second 300ZX (wrote-off the first one:( ) and they are VERY reliable in my opinion. All I did was change the cam belt (for peace of mind) and put fuel and oil in them, and changed the tyres to get rid of the jap-crap that came fitted. I covered 15K miles in the first car, and have done nearly 20k in this second one with no problems at all.

Buy one and enjoy.:D

So far, probably about 7k, which includes;

Pulling the inlet manifold & all associated pipework off after a turbo water feed split on the M40, emptying the coolant system fairly quickly.

Stainless hard pipes & rad pipes

SPA digital guages (boost, water temp, voltage, fuel pressure, oil pressure & oil temp)

Traction control

New tyres (four, standard J-spec size)

New head unit after the Pioneer 9300R got stolen

New drivers window after same.

60k service, full kit.

Underdrive pulley set

New battery

Alarm

Radar detector and laser jammer

Oh yeah - stainless fuel lines, K&N billet fuel filter

Blitz-style intake

Lots of sillicone hose all over the place - vapour, vacuum and coolant.

Soon - AVC-R (and I suppose I best get an ECU, too)

Um.. Um.. please god there must be more than that to justify 7k  Oh well!
