Got an itch for a new to me car, and the 300zx looks like the one I want to go for. I'm just checking out the more obscure part costs, but so far the general consumables seem quite reasonable. I try and do all the work I can myself. Which leads me to my first question :)
How hard are these cars to work on?
I'm no mechanic, but I like to fettle, and have done things like upper engine work/general transmission maintenance/electrics etc before. But, I've never owned a turbo car, so am unsure how that would amount to additional maintenance. I've read a few threads on other sites with people saying maintenance is hard and expensive. What are your thoughts? Be brutal please :)
I think to date the biggest job I did was a suspension rip out and replacement on a crossfire. But the car is an 06 and based off the slk, so over-engineer and not very rusty.
Second question is a bit more technical. I read that the TT's have rear hydraulic steering. If it goes wrong, as a worse case scenario, can this be locked into 0 degrees position?
Cheers all. Just need to do a bit of work on the XF and I'll be selling it and hopefully getting a 300zx.
