Hi all,

Further to my probs with not shifting from 2nd to 3rd, I ran the diagnostic this morning and it came up as dodgy rev sensor (1st flash is longer than the other nine). It's actually the 'power' light that flshes the error code - is this normal?

I've done the related votage tests, the voltage from pins 25 and 24 increase as they should with rising revs and engine speed. Is there anything else I can test?

The engine 'check' light stays on until the engine is started - can't remember if this is normal (?)

Any suggestions gratefully received, I really don't want to pay my local Nissan dealer to tell me they can't do anything except a gearbox rebuild - if it comes to that I'd rather get it converted to a manual :-\

Cheers!

A bit of progress to report...

Took my Z to a mate who used to be a FT mechanic today and he is convinced it's one of the solenoids sticking.

Anyone got any info about swapping these? e.g. loction, procedure, testing etc?? Has anyone done a swap before??

I can't help feeling the rev sensor error code is a red herring, I did the subsequent voltage tests and they check out OK. I've also wired out the kmh/mph convertor today just to rule that out. The gearbox is sweet apart from the lack of change up from 2nd to 3rd...

Anders - thanks for that mate, I may well be in touch shortly.

Cheers!

Rob,

I had the same problem.

There is a three solenoid pack including line pressure, shift 1 and 2. Its the LP solenoid sticking that causes all the problems. Cost about £110 for the solenoid pack. Personally I would replace all the solenoids including OD, Lockup etc. I may still have some so give me a call. They can be replaced by taking of the "belly pan" of the gearbox but the oil needs to be drained first. No need to drop the whole tranny. Any reputable auto specialist should be able to do it in less than 3 hours.

Good luck,

Andy

Anders you have mail.

Looking for the solenoid LP kit. Mmy tranny's doing the same thing

OK, got a part number for the kit. 3194041X04 from Nissan UK - £127+VAT

Thanks for your help Anders - could be a lifesaver....

I'm gonna contact Courtesy and see how much they want - Roy, you wanna join in and get 2 kits shipped and split the shipping??

Cheers!

Rob, check the TPS first ;) Checked out the manual last night and thats one of the problems listed. If you need any more info let me know - I think anders could be correct though ;)

CheerZ,

Andy

OK, thanks for the input.

I'm pretty sure all the sensors check out OK as I have an AVC-R which shows me throttle, speed and revs - they all look good so I'm assuming there is a good signal getting to the ECU.

Solenoids it is then...

Unfortunately my mechanic can't do the work until weekend after next - looks like I'm stuck doing 50mph at 4000rpm for a while yet :-(

Cheers!

When this happened to my car I was told not to drive it as driving constantly at 50 to 60 mph in second at 4 to 5000 rpm can cause "Hot spots" in the engine. could work out costlier in the long run

Got the price for the 3 solenoid kit from Courtesy - $338.40 +shipping etc, a lot more than the UK unusually.

Part number for a Jap 1990 is 3194041X13 £127+vat UK is 3194041X04 (I think!)

sump pan gasket is £18.90+vat (!!!) and bolt kit is £6.30+

Ah well....

Cheers!
