One of the fails in my other car was headlight beam to high, now without the proper equipment , how can i adjust it? I mean, it looks okay to me.

Featured Replies

If it was only high on one side u can park on level ground turn on your lights and use the other one for reference, or if its both use another car with adjuster set to 0 if it has one and do the same but mark the beam height on the wall and swap cars and set your car to that.

That is a crude way to do it and to be honest your test centre should allow you to adjust (if they work) during the test.

I would get the MOT centre to adjust it for you - They've always done it for free for me in the past. However, bear in mind the adjusters are plastic. Do often sieze, and can break.

As a crude alternative to above, you can position the car, say 1m away from say your garage door and mark the relevant positions.

Providing that you are on a good flat service, you can then reverse the car backwards the 5m in a straight line.

If things are set correctly, the beam location on the garage door should not change.

If they do, you can then adjust as necessary.

A bit trial and error I know.

Thanks guys, i asked the mot place if they could do it, and they said "of course" great i thought , is there a cost? "£20" came the reply... so with a bit from all your help, i managed to do it myself.. mind you, when i took it back for a re test, a different examiner found a lot of different advisories than the first. that is one of my pet hates... another thread, Oh car passed...

Thanks

It's amazing how some testers interpret the guidelines differently to others.

Congrats on the pass by the way. :thumbup1:
