Hopefully, in the not too distant future, I hope to fit a third brake light to my rear spoiler.

I have a 1992 uk lwb twin turbo which came with only a colour coded blank.

Will I find the relevant wiring harness within the boot lid that will allow me to connect directly to?

Or will I have to splice into the existing harness somewhere?

You will need to run a live feed down through the boot lid to the rear light wiring and earth to the rear wiper earth.

Thanks Andrew.

I will have a look at the weekend, l guess I will need to match up a corresponding connector of some sort.

Hopefully it will be a common connector pairing.

I just removed the connector from the 3rd brake light and used soldered bullet connectors of the type below.

Soldered splice into rear light switched feed near the o/s light cluster. For the earth I used a soldered O-ring

connector.

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

There is actually a factory inline loom/harness that is used to light up the altia panel, but it's just an elaborate/ott way of spurring off a ground and a sidelight feed.

It will have a brake line in it is what i'm saying, so no real different to crimping in on what probably you and we all have.

Thanks Andy,

Not being very bright, (electrically that is, sorry about the pun) but where and what is an altia panel? :blushing::lol:

Also, where might I find the loom/harness? would this be a more convenient method to access?

A quick google image you shall find below but like i say it just produces 2 wires that branch off but this is sidelight which you can see going over into the invertor for the light up 300ZX, some wires you see also on the harness are like i say brake.

Thanks Andy..

So, if I understand correctly, the large green block to the left of the picture is part of the standard loom?

Would this normally be left blank? or is it connected to the light assembly via the smaller piece of harness in the centre of the picture?

I'm guessing the inverter is the foam covered item to the right of the picture, correct?

With that said, are you saying I can tap off the green block via the small harness, as you have for the side lights?

Thanks Andy..

Yes that is the tail light sensor, it lives on the r/h tail light.

The harness goes inline and creates a two wire sidelight spur - that is all, nothing else.

Invertor is the foam covered block yes.

You don't have a harness ?

If you look you need to tap into the thick red wire/s, any at your tail lights.

UK Specs don't have the Altia sub harness.

Thanks Andrew, I thought I was going a bit daft.

Not sure how to tap into the back of the connector though, I'll get my thinking cap on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Andrew,

So, just to be clear in my own mind, wire A is from the third brake light and wire B is the existing loom?

Point of splice is covered by the black tape?

As you mentioned earlier, an earth can be taken from the wiper motor.

Thanks Andrew,

Yes and if you hardwire in as in Andrew's suggestion, it wouldn't affect the removal of the tail lights, whereas if you 'went in' after the multi plug you'd have to remove the 3 bulb harness before you could remove the tail light.
