Ok...Fed up with my beautiful red Zed being the world's biggest paperweight in my Dad's workshops, does anyone know the easiest (and preferably cheapest) way of getting aforesaid paperweight from a location in Bedfordshire to a location in Lancashire?

It will need to be taken up on a flat-bed trailer, so if anyone knows of anywhere that I can beg or borrow said trailer from or the cheapest method of getting it all the way up there, please can someone let me know.

Cheers...

I never said this, Ha ha. Join a recovery firm, AA or similar, push the car onto the road and say it broke down, if you get the right service they will take it where ever you want. And it will last a year.

I've done that ;)

Just give it a couple of days after you join!!!

I'm already a member of the AA, but they are the ones that towed me home when she went wrong...so it may look a little suspicious! :D

Might be my only option, though...hmmmm

True....very true.... I guess I could call the AA out for the 3rd time this year...don't want to overdo it, though otherwise they don't renew the policy claiming the car is a liability and I've already called them about mine once and Emero's when that went wrong.

:)

Oh well...guess that's what I've got to do... :D

Cheers for the replies.... :D :D

to give you an idea of a price guide. i had my car privatley towed from my residence to Maidstone (55 miles) on a flat bed truck, cost me around 85 pounds.

If you have a suitable towing vehicle then you can hire trailers from places like GT Towing (http://www.gttowing.co.uk/). Alternatively most people who are into rallying/racing have trailers. I know a few but they're all around my way, not Bedfordshire.

Thanks...I shall have a look into that. :)

Unless they've changed their policy, you don't need to worry too much about this. I had a BMW with a nightmare problem to resolve and had 7 or 8 callouts in a year. They sent me a letter saying that they would have to charge me more if I continued to call out but they never suggested they'd remove cover. I sold the car very soon after that and never had any problem renewing despite the warning letter.

P.S. In case anyone is interested, the problem turned out to be an unreliable TDC sensor which senses crank position via the flywheel and which was hit through sloppy workmanship when I had a clutch fitted.

I know that the RAC have one of thier policy of they will take you to the garage if you need a toe there. Usually its to the closest garage able to do the work but I am sure that if you say its a specialist vehicle you need a specialist garage.

Cheers for that! :)

Stuart - I've got the fancy gubbins cover which means that if I breakdown a mile away from my address they will take me and upto 7 passengers to a garage of my choice and thence home.

Which is nice... :)

Not sure that they do a taxi service to all the friends' homes, though! :D

Ajay,

Dont know if you got sorted on this yet but there is a company advertsing in the back of Practical Classics (No I only bought it to get the free ad form to advertise some old Cossie DFV exhaust pipes).

http://www.cartrans.co.uk There aint no phone number, but there you go.

Hope it helps

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Youve paid for the sevice so you might aswell use it, cost me £70 to get the car recovered 20 miles when the autobox cooler got a big leak!

One more question, how do you get 7 passengers in a zed?

  • Author

ZCAR - cheers - I'll have a look.

B19RKS - You're right, I just don't want to push it and not sure that they will pick me up from home. :D ;)

7 passengers : 2 in the front, 2 and a half in the back, 2 in the boot and half out the window. :D ;)

Good News! :D

As I've just moved address to where I currently rent, that is now considered my home address so the address where the Zed is currently lurking is over 1 mile from my "home" so I can use them to pick up my car!

For free! :D :D
