Carbon Fibre Scuttle Panel posible group buy. Register of interest

OK guys so carrying on from the discussions in another thread its clear that a few people are interested in buying a set of Carbon Scuttles.

From initial discussions with the manufacturer we would need at least 5 sets to make this viable, cost per set is circa £200-£220.

These will be "All Carbon Fibre" unlike others that are fibreglass with a carbon top face.

So if you would like to maybe participate in a group buy please register your interest and we will build a list.

I will then get the ball rolling as and when enough people have signed up.

I have a pair of very good condition OEM scuttles that will be used to take the mold from so they should fit very nicely.

I am hoping that the large gaps between the ribs can be improved upon too.

had this been in a couple months time i would have been interested, i will watch to see how they come out, do like a bit of carbon fibre :thumbup1:

Im hoping to improve on the design that's currently known by getting the ribs much closer together, there isn't a defined time to pull the trigger but I want to get the molds done and a test set for approval produced before committing to a bigger order.

Right guys a quick update on the situation and to answer a question or two.

I went to the manufacturer and after a good long chat the outcome was a mixed bag.

Firstly the question of the spacing of the ribs that put people of the older designed ones.

Well im assured that the mold is to be taken from an OEM set of panels im supplying so the Carbon versions will look exactly the same apart from the little diagonal bits under the ribs, they wont be on the carbon version.

Also the little group of square cutouts will be deleted too to give a cleaner look.

Secondly both scuttles will be 100% carbon unlike the old design that was carbon backed with fibreglass meaning they will be stronger and lighter.

This means that they will be oven cured then epoxy lacquered to give a superb finish.

The downside to this is the cost of the 4 piece mold and the time taken to make them (2 days in the oven alone) has meant a higher price.

So I have made the decision to pay for the molds out of my own pocket and have the first set made to show you guys the quality that can be expected, they will be far superior than the previous design and will look the dogs danglies however they will cost around £290 for the set.

I can appreciate this may be a bit expensive to some but when you consider the cost of plastic ones and the fact these will never fade or crack with age like plastic ones than I don't think they are too bad price wise.

Anyway im expecting to get the molds done and the first set in around 4-6 weeks time so ill keep you guys posted then if you want to order a set fine, if not well that's up to you.

The product will belong exclusively to me and just to add if I offer these elsewhere the price will go up the price you guys get is COST so im not making penny from this venture its all for the good of the club.

Count me in pending a look at the finished product

It might look a tad funny if they are finished in a high gloss epoxy when all the other external black bits are a satin finish at best !

If you want satin you can have it sprayed satin too

Still interested in this Ian, depending on the finish of your first one. Good point TonyB rasied about the gloss level on the part. Satin may work better.

The carbon ones on both my cars are gloss and look good tbh but you can have either.

Interesting, it would be good to see a photo of your current ones against these new ones Ian, once they are manufactured.

I'd be up for a set of these when they happen assuming they're as good quality as it sounds like they're going to be.
