A friend of mine........

 

No is isnt my Z its still in pieces. Friends got a 90 TT import, seems to run OK but when you go into positive boost the temp gauge plummets to cold and back to normal when off boost. Im sure its a simple one but im too simple too advise. Any answers?

hmmm first thing to check is, if the sensor is faulty. get new one from Nissan (they get old and corroded over time)

Had the same on my Zed. Turned out to be a very loosly connected temp-sensor-guage plug. This is the black one (next to the yellow one) on the water outlet directly behind the main fan. Tell your friend to put the connector back on firmly so that it doesn't move when the fan speed increases (as you accellerate). In my case I used a tie-back to hold the connector on firmly.
