Evening all,

Just got back from a viewing of a second Zed. A 1993 slicktop Auto TT. One owner since import in 99, and covered less than 15k miles since!

Bodywork seems pretty good apart from some ageing paint, wth minimal corrosion. Kept 100% stock! 93 on the clock.

It has a slight misfire or is just running rich, and failed the mot on smoke due to apparently the head gaskets, but yet to prove that.

Took a gamble on it but going to ship it home this weekend. I have a mechanic friend willing to do the investigation and heads potentially.

£1000 + 1-200 in shipping, so hoping worst case I will make my money back if it turns out to be more work than we can take on.

Potential for the future is possible a manual conversion is the repair work goes well and we will see! Couldn't not take it at that price though, is a gamble but we will see!

Update 01:

finally checked the car over in the light. Nothing technical just a decent look over. Seems really solid, can't really see any corrosion underneath! paintwork needs some attentions on offside rear quarter but nothing terrible. Also rear bumper has faded a little.

Interior is exceptional. engine wise it starts to misfire or run slightly lumpy once warm (didn't seem to when cold). The passenger side seems to smoke slightly more (keep in mind this is a 6 degree afternoon so pretty nippy). Smoke could be worse... Looks grey to me though, not blue?!

Interested to hear thoughts...

Oh christ yeah the engine bay is a state!! Couldn't believe it. Needs a good scrub. And the rear carpet has a bit of mould so not sure where that leak is coming from!

It needs a good long drive and then see what issues it has mate.

Gunna be tough that one without mot :(

I could presumably have a mechanic drive it to an MOT center?... would only give it a run of 20 miles though. It hasn't failed on anything apart from the smoke at the beginning of the month.

Well it is legal to drive a car to a pre arranged MOT, so drive it home lol. Would probably be cheaper than transport ;)

Updates:

so in my absence I had my local mechanic look over the car for a first opinion. He does all the work on my zed an I trust him but this is a bit specialist for him.

He found a vac leak which is has fixed so hopefully running smooth again!

He did not see any blue smoke and didn't think it to be smoking any more than it should on a cold morning really, so he suggested we try it for an MOT anyway as the last owners garage just refused to test it based on "Blue Smoke" as per th MOT fail stating not tested... Still not seen any of that!

He did a head crack test (or something like that) which uses a chemical in the water to test for air mixing. Apparently it turns a different colour if there is a leaking head gasket, and it passed that. But this is something I have never heard of.

Finally he did a quick comp test on the cylinders, but he did say that his gear hasn't been set up in a while so woudl be good to get second opinion. He found that all cylinders were at 90 PSI, apart from the left front which was 60 PSI.

Woudl still really like to meet with Steve if he is around one weekend tot have a crack at testing the cylinders...

So we are going to try and MOT it next week and just see what they say. If I can get it on the road at least it gives me some flexibility with future work. Although Inisital insurance quotes are killing me due to not havgin any no claims bonus (on other car). lookign at a grand to get a years insurance at moment which is killer :s will try lancaster tomorrow.

If you can get it MOT'd and nip it over it leaves me with way more options. Just got my hands full at present for reasons you know already ;).

That's great news on the dye test btw. Keep us posted.

So just to update this, today she went through the mot after finally getting. Around to sorting it!!

She failed emissions first time but after some redex and a blast down the road they came down to passable levels! Pretty pleased.

Will drive her back to London in the coming weeks and see what she is like
